PEP Second Round Grantees Receiving Notification
Have you heard if your PEP grant was funded? Schools began receiving calls last week confirming that they will be receiving PEP funding for the 2014 year. An official list of schools should be out soon at the Carol White Physical Education Program (PEP) website.

Our elementary school has been wanting a USA map for two years. Finding the volunteers to help was the challenge. Jason was looking for a project for his Eagle Scout badge. The map turned out to be the perfect project. Jason coordinated the volunteers and the school now has two amazing maps. The maps make the whole playground look so much more colorful and creative. It is no surprise that students' fitness levels continue to be low and obesity and overweight categories in youth continue to climb, presenting cascading and troubling trends toward overall student health and fitness. Farm to School Grant Program Sponsor: USDA The purpose of the USDA Farm to School Grant Program is to assist eligible entities in implementing farm to school programs that improve access to local foods in eligible schools. On an annual basis, USDA awards up to $5 million in competitive grants for training, supporting operations, planning, purchasing equipment, developing school gardens, developing partnerships, and implementing farm to school programs. Grants between $15,000-$50,000 will be awarded. Schools are encouraged to apply. Deadline: April 30, 2014.
School Grants for Healthy Kids Sponsor: Action for Healthy Kids
Action for Healthy Kids is pleased to release its School Grants for Healthy Kids opportunities for the 2014-2015 school year. School breakfast program pilot and/or expansion - to include alternative breakfast programs (i.e., breakfast in the classroom, grab and go breakfast, breakfast after 1st period, breakfast on the school bus) and universal breakfast programs. Schools must realize an increase in daily ADP of school breakfast program by 25%, and must provide information to students/parents on nutrition and caloric content of foods available. Schools must also join the celebration during Every Kid Healthy Week by hosting a family-friendly health-promoting event during April 2015.

Working in partnership with NASPE, ING will provide grants to establish a school-based running program or expand an existing one. The goal of this funding is to empower school age children nationwide with the means to achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle. At least 60 grants of up to $3,500 will be awarded to select applicants. Programs that target grades Kindergarten through 8th grade in elementary or middle schools are eligible to apply.
