MCMS Open House is this Thursday, April 28 

Festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. with D' Amore's Pizza and Uncle Chris' Italian Ice.  They will be selling delicious food and dessert! There will also be a FABULOUS raffle with great 
prizes available until 7pm!
 
5:30pm - 6:30pm: everyone will have the opportunity to listen to music from the MCMS Choir & Band in the Amphitheatre!
 
6:30 - 7pm: General Meeting
 
7:00 to 8:00 pm: everyone will be able to view and celebrate student accomplishments from the year.  Classrooms will be open and teachers on hand throughout campus to view student work.
 
7:45 - 8pm: Raffle winners announced!

Spring Band and Choir Concerts this Week

Join us for the Spring Band and Choir Concerts on April 25 & 27 from 6 pm at Oak Park High School Pavilion. Come and see our talented musicians and singers put on a fantastic show. There will be a bake sale preceding the events, the proceeds will go towards supporting our music programs.

Summer School Walk-up Registration is Saturday April 30

The Friends of Oak Park Schools will be holding a walk-up registration on Saturday, April 30th from 9am to 11am at the Medea Creek Middle School Gym. Registration will be held on a first-come basis for all classes that have openings. Current OPUSD students as well as students who are not currently attending an OPUSD school (or who will not be attending an OPUSD school next year) are welcome to register for any of our summer classes at this time. Volunteer Opportunity for Summer
The "Volunteers Inspire Progress" teen volunteer program will offer valuable on-the-job experience during the 2016 summer break. Volunteer opportunities include special events, recreational classes, day camps, City Hall, and the Recreation Center front office. Applications are due by Friday May 27th at 4:00 pm.There is a $25 registration fee, which includes a t-shirt, fingerprinting and volunteer manual.

OPHS Debate Club Meeting! 
Do you want to improve your public speaking? Critical thinking? Writing? Ability to organize your ideas? Knowledge of current events? Have you heard about Oak Park High School's new debate team? The new Oak Park High School Debate team invites you to a mini debate and informational meeting after school this Wednesday April 27th, in the Medea Creek library from 3pm-4pm. You will get to see 9th graders, who just started debate this year, give both sides of the arguments to the resolution: "in the United States, private ownership of handguns ought to be banned." 
We had many team and individual successes in our first year. We are a very warm and friendly team. Come learn what debate is all about. See you on Wednesday, April 27th 3pm-4pm in the Medea Creek Library. Click here for more information.

Soon your eighth grader will culminate from Middle School and move on to High School. It is suggested that you sign-up to receive the weekly eNews bulletins distributed by the OPHS PFA and stay informed of events at the High School.

International Festival a Huge Success

The 7th annual district International Festival held on April 8, 2016 was a huge success thank to the efforts of our chairperson Ms. Caroline Sabey, Mrs. Angela Wells/Operations and Country Booths, Mrs. Patty Bleau/Marketing and Advertising and Mrs. Binky Demetre/Production Administrator.

We want to thank all the participants for the booths that were represented that evening. FRANCE represented by Madame Bovard's French Class and Isabelle Rhode; INDIA: Sirisha Potluri, BHAVYA SINGH, Smitha Mathew; ENGLAND: Glenys Bough; BRAZIL: Elaine Braganca, Simone Soares Letterman,Daniela Andrada;GREECE: Nicolette Graviss, Andreas Frangou-10th grade, Phillipos Frangou -9th grade; ARMENIA: Caroline Sabey, Brandon Sabey 8th grade, Patrick Sabey 5th grade; RUSSIA: Arianna Bleau; SWITZERLAND: Nathalie Riesen; POLAND: Annette Segel, Guillermina and Natalie Perez, Loretta Brown.

We also want to thank all the performers and the choreographers from all the schools for their time, dedication and fantastic dances and performances that evening. Most of all we would like to thank Julie Suarez and her team for all their hard work in preparing the facility that day. Mr. Richard Ortega for getting the Pavilion ready for both outdoor and indoor performances in such a timely manner. Thank you to Ms. Carole Ly and her staff for serving the wonderful Indian food catered by Anarbagh restaurant.

Thank you Notes

Please let your kids know to look for the PFA representative who will be there during 7/8th grade lunch on Tuesday, April 26 to have students write personalized notes to staff members. This is an important way to thank the staff, and we would like each staff members to have notes. If there are any parents who would like to contribute, please email Sandra Jenko at sjenko@gmx.de.
