Medea's Math Counts Team is Headed for the County Competition
On Saturday, February 27th Medea Creek will travel to Sycamore Canyon School in Newbury Park to compete in the annual Santa Barbara/Ventura County competition.  During January our club conducted a school competition to determine which students would make up our team and alternates.  All interested Math Counts members were encouraged to participate to earn a spot on the team.  After four weeks of stiff competition, points were tallied and our team was created using the same method as in the chapter and state competitions.  Many of the brightest young students in our area will be in attendance, and the competition is always tough.  Congratulations to our team members and alternates, and thanks to all the students that have been a part of Math Counts this year.

The competition information, along with all the math counts material used this year, can be downloaded at:  http://www.oakparkusd.org/Page/4704.

February is Attendance Awareness Month
Daily attendance at school becomes increasingly critical as students get older and move up in grade level. Schoolwork is more challenging and time spent in class collaborating, discussing, and researching with classmates cannot be made-up or replicated at home.
Students need to make every effort to be at school daily and on time.  "Stay At Home Sick" for students includes, as rule of thumb, the following:
  • A morning temperature of 99.0 degrees or greater
  • Fever -free for 24 hours before returning to school
  • Vomit-free for 24 hours before returning to school
  • When a child has diarrhea
  • Severe coughing, green nasal discharge or severe earaches
  • Severe sore throat with trouble swallowing
