STEAM Career Exploration Night  - Speakers Needed

Thursday February 18th 2016 7:00-9:00 PM at the MCMS GYM

STEAM Career Exploration Night is meant to create, and sustain student interest in science, technology, engineering, arts and math careers which are increasing and evolving at a rapid pace. However, STEAM is far more than this and is best viewed in terms of its attributes and skills that all students, and workers need to be successful in college, career, and life in the 21st Century. There is a growing demand for these competencies throughout today's economy beyond the traditional STEAM occupations.  This is a unique opportunity for our students and their parents to inquire, search and learn from local professionals in the STEAM and related fields, as they talk about the work they are doing and how to prepare for college-readiness.

STEAM Professionals Needed
We are recruiting STEAM professionals to be guest speakers for this event. Would you be willing to share your experience with students in middle and high school? If you are interested please complete this survey. Our hope is to represent a wide range of STEAM careers, and careers that require STEAM skills and attributes. If your career field is needed, we will contact you to be a guest speaker.
Someone Like Me - Assembly for 8th Grade Students and Parents
This year, Kaiser's Educational Theatre Group will be at MCMS on Thursday, January 21st from 6:00-7:30 p.m. in the gym. We are inviting all 8th grade students with their parent(s) to attend. This is a unique opportunity to learn together, share and dialogue about crucial issues facing our adolescents. This is a special event just for you! After the performance we will have some debrief time with the show's actors and our Medea Creek counselors.  Upon conclusion of these events, there will be a paper given out to be submitted to the science teacher to earn extra credit science points available for each 8th grade student who attends with their parent In addition, the Director of the production has selected us for a special focus group discussion (about 30 minutes) with him after the show. One adult group and one student group.  If you are interested in this special opportunity, please fill out the slip(which will be sent home with the students this week) and return it to the Student Window ASAP, as there is limited space for this.

For the past several years we have been fortunate to host Someone Like Me and it has continued to be warmly and appreciatively received by parents as a unique opportunity for them to be in attendance with their child for some very relevant educational theater.

8th graders will be receiving a letter regrading this event in their SCIENCE class January 5 and 6.
International Aviation Art Contest - January 22
Since 1989 the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) has sponsored the International Aviation Art Contest to challenge young people to illustrate the importance of aviation through art. Demonstrating the impact of aeronautics through an interactive, fun medium such as art motivates youth of all ages to become more familiar with aeronautics, engineering and science. The U.S. portion of the contest is sanctioned by the National Aeronautic Association (NAA), managed by the NASAO Center for Aviation Research and Education and sponsored by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University - Prescott, Ken Cook Co., the Federal Aviation Administration, and the National Coalition for Aviation and Space Education with additional support from NASAO members.

Children between the ages of 6 and 17 may participate. Entries will be judged in three classes, according to age and at least in part for its creative use of the theme in relation to the aviation world. Each FAI member country sponsors the contest in their country, and submits national winners to the International Jury each year.
