7th Grade Catalina  Trip
Catalina
Attention all families of seventh graders attending the Catalina trip

Thank you so much for helping to prepare your student for our trip! There are a few important reminders before we depart on Monday morning:
  • Families dropping students off for the trip may drop off students and their gear in the MCMS parking lot. Do not park in the lot. Please park on Doubletree Road after dropping your child off. Only staff vehicles will be permitted to use the MCMS lot as the buses will be parked there.
  • All students attending the trip should arrive at the MCMS gym at 6:00 am (having already eaten breakfast). The buses will board at 6:20 am and students must find their group in the gym before that time.
  • All students and chaperones must wear closed toe shoes on Monday. Please do not wear sandals, slippers or UGGs. Sneakers are the best option!
  • All students and chaperones should bring a brown bag lunch (no glass) to eat on the boat on Monday.
  • Remember to bring $5 if you will be participating in the night snorkel.
  • Don't forget to bring a reusable water bottle with the student's name clearly labeled.
  • If you are attending Cherry Cove, place a purple ribbon on all of your bags. If you are attending Fox Landing, place a white ribbon on all of your bags.
  • Almost all medications should have been already brought to school. Any remaining medications should be given directly to Ms. O'Hagan (Fox) or Ms. Cohen (Cherry) on Monday morning in a ziploc baggie with the student's name on it and in their original container (with the prescription label).
  • Medications will not be administered by MCMS staff Monday morning. If your student is taking a motion sickness medication (or any other medication), please give it to them at home ( Sunday night before bed and Monday morning before you arrive at school.
We look forward to an exciting and memorable learning experience!

Notes from the October School Board Meeting
The board began the regular monthly meeting of the Oak Park USD Board of Education, held on October 20th, with a moment of silence in memory of Kate Edwards, an Oak Park Independent School teacher who tragically passed away. The Board then presented a Certificate of Recognition to OPHS student Sumedha Attanti for earning the Microsoft Master Certification, presented a Partners in Education Award to Tracie Horstman, and presented a Retirement Recognition to retired MCMS teacher Cindy Ligeti. Regular reports were heard from Board Members, the Superintendent, and the Student Board Representative.  The Board also heard reports from BES, MCMS, and OPHS School Site Councils. The Board additionally heard a report from Dr. Leslie Heilbron, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, in regard to 2015 Assessment Results.

Operation Gratitude Halloween Candy Donation
The OPUSD Community Outreach Committee is again asking for donations of Halloween Candy which will be given to Operation Gratitude. Operation Gratitude will then send it to our troops worldwide as well as our Police and Fire Personnel locally. The troops share the non-chocolate candies with children in war-torn areas as a friendly good-neighbor outreach. Stories of soldiers using these candies to change what could be a negative incident into a positive one are numerous. The local Police and Fire stations keep the candy on-hand in their squad cars and fire trucks to give to children in emergency situations, or just as a friendly treat!
All candy must be separated into Chocolate and Non-Chocolate bags/boxes, this will be done by volunteers, but if you could also keep your donations separated that would be appreciated. Donation Boxes will be at every school site Monday, November 2nd through Friday, November 6th. Thank you in advance for your help with this project!
