Our Perspective
Spotlight: Intrapreneurship
in·tra·pre·neur, / intrəprəˈnər,-ˈno͝or/, noun, a manager within a company who promotes innovative product development and marketing.
Gifford Pinchot, the first Chief of the U.S. Forest Service, described intrapreneurs as "dreamers who do." Put simply, intrapreneurship means acting like an entrepreneur while working within a larger organization. Like entrepreneurs, intrapreneurs have intense passion, courage, diligence, dedication, and flexibility. Intrapreneurs are risk-takers and through self-motivation inspire innovation in their organizations. A significant component of Augusta County's economic development strategy focuses on nurturing both entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs. I am encouraged and excited by the intrapreneurship that I encounter in businesses of all sizes I visit throughout Augusta County. Every day I meet responsible, hard-working individuals who pair ingenuity and creativity with technology for the benefit of their organization and its customers.
Whether you work in small or large business, nonprofit, or government, I hope you will encourage and reward intrapreneurship. The businesses in Augusta County inspire me, and I hope you'll be among the "dreamers who do."
