Our Perspective
Spotlight: High Impact Leadership
I recently had the opportunity to attend annual training provided by the Southern Economic Development Council. Excellent presenters discussed topics ranging from attracting talent, marketing communities for business, economic forecasts, and "reshoring" manufacturing, among others.
The session entitled "On the Edge: the Art of High Impact Leadership" was the most inspirational. Alison Levine completed what is known as the "Explorers Grand Slam" - she has traveled to the North and South Poles and climbed the highest summit on all seven continents. She also was the team leader for the first all-women expedition to Mount Everest. In her talk, she discussed her climb and related the principles of climbing to leadership in work, business, and life in general. I encourage you to check out her book On The Edge and watch this 18-minute video.
"Fear is okay; complacency will kill you." "No storm lasts forever." "Getting to the top is optional, getting back down is mandatory." "We can't control the environment - only our response to it." "Sometimes you don't have to have complete clarity to just put one foot in front of the other."
"Backing up is not the same thing as backing down."
I hope you'll find Alison as inspiring as I did! #keepclimbing Amanda Glover Director of Economic Development 540.245.5619 |
