Our Perspective
Spotlight on Site Location Consultants

I recently returned from a marketing mission to Atlanta, GA and Greenville, SC. Along with a couple of my fellow economic developers from the Shenandoah Valley, I called on site location consultants and promoted our region as a strategic business location. Site location consultants touch more business projects than any other group of people so they are very knowledgeable in the field of economic development, and they aren't bashful about providing an honest opinion. As we have experienced in the past, the Shenandoah Valley continues to rank very high as a great place to do business. Here are a few facts that seemed to be most impressive to the site location consultants we visited:

  • In the past two years, the Shenandoah Valley has experienced $317 million of investment and 1,380 new jobs

  • On an annual basis, 22,000 students graduate from colleges and universities in the Shenandoah Valley

  • 16% of the labor force in the Shenandoah Valley works in manufacturing (that percentage is slightly higher - around 19% - in Augusta County)

Our economy is strong and vibrant because of the existing businesses, higher education institutions, and other partners we have across sectors. As always, thank you for your presence in Augusta County - it's a pleasure to market such an attractive community.

Your monthly tip

Attention parents! If you have a middle school or high school-aged child, here is a great resource to practice money management with your children. "Budget Your Life," on the "Dream It. Do It. Virginia" website, allows young adults to compare their expected lifestyle with corresponding occupations and the salaries that would be required to fit that expected lifestyle.

There are also opportunities on the site for career exploration and information on career paths that deserve a second look from students and parents!
