CDLC members joined the Committee on Resource Sharing at ILL Field Day: It's Not Just ILL Anymore May 7th for updates about ILL initiatives, CDLC services, NOVEL databases, OCLC services and I2NY initiatives. Sheryl Knab from Western NY Library Resources Council presented on a demand-driven e-book pilot project, which is accepting participants. View presentations from ILL Field Day here. Thank you to the presenters and to attendees for coming together to share information. A special thanks to the staff at Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library for serving as wonderful hosts! 

 

CDLC has partnered with MicroKnowledge Inc. to offer members discounted pricing on MicroKnowledge classes. Members receive a 20 percent discount off of standard course fees for desktop application courses, and receive discounted pricing on private instructor-led pricing. CDLC will be working with MicroKnowledge to offer some courses. View MicroKnowledge courses and if you have questions or recommendations for classes you would like CDLC to consider offering, please contact Kathleen Gundrum.

 

The Committee on Resource Sharing is forming a working group to review the Direct Access Program and is recruiting a few volunteers for this group. If interested, contact Kathleen Gundrum by May 23rd. 

 

Through the Documentary Heritage Program, CDLC members are invited to Marketing Your Archives on May 19th and a Backing Up and Moving Forward: Practical Preservation for Your Institution's Digital Assets lunch and learn program on June 20th. There is no cost for these programs; click on the links for information.

 

CDLC's Hospital Library Service Program is offering Copyright and Libraries, Part II on May 30th, from 9:30-12:30 at CDLC. There is no cost for CDLC members; registration is limited. 

 

Staff from CDLC, Hudson Valley Community College and the SUNY Office of Library and Information Services are presenting Discovering Digital Collections at the SUNYLA Annual Conference on Thursday, June 12th at the University at Albany. Information is here.  

 

CDLC members receive free access to lynda.com, an online subscription library that teaches the latest software tools and skills through instructional videos in a broad range of subjects including business skills, design, animation, and web design and development. CDLC has a limited number of activation codes, available on a first-come, first-served basis. We are offering activation periods of two weeks, when users may view as many videos as they wish. Please contact Sue Rahn for an activation code.

Be sure to check out Albany Public Library's new sub-collection in NY Heritage, Residential Albany, which was made live to coincide with the opening of a new art exhibit, Homespun, at its Pine Hills Branch.  

 

The Saratoga Room at Saratoga Springs Public Library was recently featured in The Saratogian. Worth a visit!

Upper Hudson Library System has recently expanded its digital download services to include Chinese and Spanish-language titles as well as streaming videos.  The foreign language titles were selected by subject specialists and are targeted at serving the two largest foreign-language speaking populations in UHLS's service area.   

 

Library card holders also now have instant access to streaming video with a growing catalog of digital feature films, documentaries, educational, and children's favorites with an easy-to-use viewing experience.  All of these services can be accessed from the library's website

Registration closes on May 24th for the Empire Collaborations conferences taking place in June at the University at Albany. Don't forget to register for the Academic Librarians Conference and/or the SUNYLA Conference.
