CDLC News
At the December 2013 CDLC Board of Trustees meeting, Jean Sheviak, Executive Director of CDLC since October 1998, announced she is retiring in the Spring. Jean will work with the Board's Personnel Committee to ensure a smooth transition. Stay tuned for news on planned festivities as we wish Jean well in her retirement!
 
 
The 2014 Regional Bibliographic Databases Program grant applications are being accepted through Fri., Feb. 14th.  These grants may be used to support cataloging retrospective conversion projects or metadata projects. 
 
 
Later this month, CDLC is distributing a member survey regarding CDLC programs and services; we are requesting input from everyone. Thank you in advance for your participation.

 

 

The NY3Rs is offering a reduced rate for the Computers in Libraries (CIL) conference in Washington DC. CDLC members are eligible for the special rate of $299 (if you register before March 7th), a 40% savings. To receive the discount, complete the form on the NY 3Rs page to receive a priority code, then use this registration page and enter the code. 

 

 

The CDLC Board of Trustees appointed Melissa Tacke, librarian at the Schenectady County Historical Society, to the Documentary Heritage Program Advisory Committee. Melissa held several positions prior to coming to SCHS, including ones at Albany Public Library and the Adirondack Museum. Welcome Melissa!


The 2014-2015 Documentary Heritage Program grant application deadline is Monday, March 3rd.  

 

 

CDLC welcomes Ben Himmelfarb, an intern from the University at Albany. Among other projects, Ben will be working with Susan D'Entremont, Regional Archivist & Digitization Project Coordinator and Ilka Morse, Digitization Field Trainer, to add images from Albany Public Library's local history collection to New York Heritage.

 

 

At its November 2013 workshop, "Learning About Literacy," CALA, the Capital Area Library Assistants,  an interest group of CDLC, donated to the Literacy Volunteers of Rensselaer County and learned about the important work of this organization.   

 

 

Does your library participate in the Empire Library Delivery service? You may have some spare bags you're not using. If so, please put them back into the system; some libraries are experiencing "bag shortages" and we want everyone to have the resources they need to share their material. Thank you!

OCLC is migrating its resource sharing activities to a new platform, WorldShare ILL, requiring libraries to be on the new platform by May 19th. Please contact Marie Noonan with any questions.

Member News
Candace (Dee) Portzer, School Library System Director at the Questar III School Library System, retired in December. Dee was Director for 22 years and also an active CDLC Trustee. We wish Dee well in her retirement! 

After 13 years of service to the Sage Colleges Libraries, Rosedelia Redwood is leaving to work at the New York State Library in the Cataloguing Unit as a Library Technical Assistant. During her time at Sage, Rose worked at both Troy and Albany Sage Libraries in the circulation, interlibrary loan and technical services departments.  Best of luck Rosedelia!

 

Rebekah Jarvis-Girtler has joined the Sage Libraries as an Adjunct Reference Librarian. She completed her M.S.L.I.S. at Florida State University in May 2013 and is also a graduate of Alfred University. Rebekah previously worked for the Sage Libraries as a Senior Library Specialist for the Circulation Department. Welcome back Rebekah!
