Out to New England FIRST Robotics Competition teams...

NE FIRST Things FIRST

Week of March 21, 2016

Week 3 Event Results

Results from our Week 3 UMass Dartmouth event are available. All event results are available here.

District rankings are available here! Once posted, District rankings will be live-updated as the season progresses.

If your team is high in the rankings or has already qualified to interview for Chairman's, Engineering Inspiration or Rookie All-Star at the District Championship, be sure to check out the information posted on the NE FIRST website. Please note that we will have 64 New England teams at District Championship rather than the 60 listed in Section 7 of the Administrative Manual.

Important: Consent & Release Form Procedure Reminder

Most teams have already competed in their first New England District event and will not need to bring the NE FIRST Consent & Release forms for subsequent events. If you have not, please remember to bring the NE FIRST forms to your first New England event. However, you must have either your FIRST Consent & Release forms or your TIMS Team Roster printed out for every official event you attend. Failure to present both sets of forms at your first event or the TIMS team roster/FIRST Consent & Release forms at every event will result in your team not being able to participate in the event until you bring the forms or roster to Pit Administration.

FIRST Program Exhibition at District Championship

On Saturday, April 16 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., we will be holding a FIRST LEGO League Jr. Expo as well as an exhibition for FIRST LEGO League and FIRST Tech Challenge during our District Championship Event at the XL Center in Hartford. We are looking for several teams throughout New England across all three programs to participate. FIRST LEGO League and FIRST Tech Challenge teams interested in participating in the event should contact Stacey Gray at [email protected]. Interested FIRST LEGO League Jr. teams should follow the instructions listed on the Stamford Robotics website.

Additionally, we are looking for adults who are interested in being reviewers for the FIRST LEGO League Jr. Expo. Interested volunteers should sign up in VIMS under FIRST Robotics Competition (rather than FIRST LEGO League Jr.) since the expo is part of a FIRST Robotics Competition event.

Dow Shaping the Future Contest

Dow and FIRST have teamed up to give students an opportunity to win up to $5,000 for their FIRST team. A total of $25,000 in grant money will be awarded to eight FIRST teams. As a company who works to solve some of the world's most pressing challenges, Dow wants to know how you would go about creating sustainable communities for future generations. Create a video that is 60 seconds or less in length describing a world challenge that your team would like to solve during your life time and how you would approach it using STEM. The solution can be anything STEM related - you are not just limited to robotics!

Video submissions can be uploaded Monday, April 11 - Sunday, April 17, 2016. Voting will take place Monday, April 18 - Sunday, April 24. More information about the contest can be found here.

Volunteer for New England District Events!

Several upcoming events, including the District Championship event, are still in need of or accepting Field Repair/Reset volunteers, especially given how intensive field reset has been so far. Interested team volunteers should sign up in VIMS.

Calling All 25-Year Volunteers & Mentors!

FIRST is looking to recognize any volunteers or mentors that have been with FIRST Robotics Competition since its first year of events in 1992. We're also interested in knowing what volunteers and mentors have been with the program for 20+ years. If you are a 20+ year volunteer/mentor or know of one, please reach out to Carol Scully at [email protected]
