Robot Safety
We try to make safety a priority in FIRST. However, there are always risks involved in building and operating large, heavy machines. The Safety Manual has information on how to prevent injury and maintain a culture of safety in your team. Kate Pilotte also posted a blog last week about robot safety with an important reminder on the e-stop button:
Remember that, in case of emergency or unsafe operation, your robot can be disabled safely and quickly from your Operator Console computer.
- If you're connected to an official FIRST field, it's the red button on your player station shelf.
- If you're not connected to an official FIRST field and using our Driver Station Powered by NI LabVIEW, use the space bar on your driver station computer. Make sure that the space bar is labeled, everyone on the team knows this, and everyone has permission to disable the robot.

Dean's List & Woodie Flowers Award Recognition Clarification
During Opening Ceremonies on Day 1 of each competition, nominees for both Dean's List and Woodie Flowers will be asked to stand up and their names will be displayed on a slide. Woodie Flowers Award nominees will be recognized at the first event the team registered for.
Going forward, during the Award Ceremony on Day 2, the three Dean's List Semifinalists selected from the pool of nominees interviewed at each event will be announced and asked to stand up.
If possible, please make sure your nominees are present during Day 1 Opening Ceremonies to be recognized.

Volunteer for New England District Events!
Several upcoming events, including the District Championship event, are still in need of or accepting Field Repair/Reset volunteers, especially given how intensive field reset has been so far. Interested team volunteers should sign up in VIMS.

Calling All 25-Year Volunteers & Mentors!
FIRST is looking to recognize any volunteers or mentors that have been with FIRST Robotics Competition since its first year of events in 1992. We're also interested in knowing what volunteers and mentors have been with the program for 20+ years. If you are a 20+ year volunteer/mentor or know of one, please reach out to Carol Scully at cscully@nefirst.org.
