Out to New England FIRST Robotics Competition teams...

NE FIRST Things FIRST

Week of February 1, 2016

Practice Field Elements & Useful Information

Last week, we asked you all to mention if you would be willing to share field elements or practice space with other teams. Additionally, we asked for information that would be beneficial to other teams. We compiled the results here. If your team is not on the list but would be willing to let other teams use your field elements or practice space, please email Steve Cremer at scremer@nefirst.org. This document will be updated with new entries throughout the season. Thank you to all of the teams that have stepped up to offer resources to others!

National Robotics Week

National Robotics Week 2016 will take place on Saturday, April 2 through Sunday, April 10. The purpose of National Robotics Week is to:

  • Educate the public about how robotics technology impacts society, both now and in the future
  • Advocate for increased funding for robotics technology research and development
  • Inspire students of all ages to pursue careers in robotics and other Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math-related fields
To see what events are being held in your area or to post one of your own events, visit the National Robotics Week website.

Vote for a Video about FIRST

FedEx, a Strategic Partner and proud Sponsor of FIRST, has submitted a video about FIRST into the Boston College Film Festival at the Corporate Citizenship Conference. Jason Baker and Traci Stubblefield from FedEx will be presenting the importance of the FIRST mission to the world during the conference. Please watch the video and cast your vote here (FedEx is in the large company category). Voting is open through Monday, Feb. 15.

WPI Student Survey of FRC Teams

Two WPI students, Francisco Sanchez and Travis Simoneau, are surveying FRC teams as part of their studies. They are examining the composition of veteran FRC Teams in relation to quantitative team data. In order to obtain information for this study, they are trying to reach veteran FRC team 5 years old or older. The survey will be used to attempt to understand what traits contribute to overall team success, based on longevity of teams, team competition success, and other factors. Your participation may help them find traits that correlate with success, which could support new FRC teams in developing into sustaining, successful teams.

Please help their study be successful by participating! The survey will take between 15 and 30 minutes to complete. Click here to take the survey.

Questions about the survey may be directed right to Francisco (fmsanchez@WPI.EDU) and Travis (tjsimoneau@WPI.EDU).
