New Districts

Many of you have probably already heard, but it's now been formally announced that we have three new Districts for the 2016 season!
  • The FIRST Chesapeake District - Maryland, Virginia, & Washington D.C.
  • North Carolina
  • The Peachtree District - Georgia
All teams within these states and Washington D.C. will automatically become part of their given District.
These three Districts, along with Indiana, Michigan, the Mid Atlantic, the New England, and the Pacific Northwest will comprise the eight Districts for the 2016 season.

Frank Answers Fridays

Send your good questions to goodfrcquestion@usfirst.org and Frank Merrick, the FRC Director, will occasionally pick one to answer on a Friday. For more thoughts and guidelines on this, check out the original blog on this feature from a few years ago.

Help FIRST win $500,000 from Microsoft!

FIRST could use your help in winning $500,000 from Microsoft. Microsoft has already identified nine non-profits to each receive $500,000, and is using community voting to select the tenth. We'd like to be that tenth! You can vote on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter, once per day on each, until Sunday, Aug. 23.

You can find details here. Enter @FIRSTweets in the voting box in Section 2 to cast your vote. Or, you can use posts like this:

FIRST Future Innovator Award Reminder

The FIRST Future Innovator Award (FFIA) recognizes creativity in effectively solving a real-world, complex problem through the invention of a unique solution beyond the requirements of the FIRST Abbott Fund competition season. The FFIA challenges students to think about and submit inventions pertaining to the three challenges selected from the National Academy of Engineering's 14 Grand Challenges for engineering in the 21st century:
  1. Engineering The Tools Of Scientific Discovery
The FFIA competition is open to all FRC and FTC team members for the current 2014/15 and 2015/16 seasons. Team members may apply for the award through the FFIA Submission Website. The Submission website closes on Friday, Oct. 30 at noon.

The FFIA winner and two runners-up will be announced at the 2016 FIRST Championship. The three finalists will be invited to attend the event where one $5,000 and two $2,500 cash prizes will be awarded by FIRST.

More information about the award can be found on the website and questions can be submitted to FFIA@usfirst.org.

Be sure to update your team's profile and contact information in TIMS ASAP to ensure that you receive all important communications. Additionally, any new Main or Alternate contacts will need to clear YPP before the team is able to register.
