2015 FRC Championship Updates

The newest FRC blogpost talks about the new sub-division field and pit layout for FRC Championship. The eight sub-divisions will be divided into four divisions: Newton - Hopper, Curie - Carver, Galileo - Carson and Archimedes - Tesla. Each sub-division will have 75 teams, so there will be 150 teams competing for each judged division-level award.

Additionally, the final list of workshops and conferences for the 2015 FIRST Championship Conference will be posted on Monday, March 25.

Finally, don't forget, your team can start reserving housing for Championship now.

CT Invention Convention Judges Needed

The 32nd annual Connecticut Invention Convention will take place on Saturday, May 2 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at UConn's Gampel Pavilion. The program is open to K-8 students statewide, and is designed to develop, encourage, and enhance critical thinking skills through invention, innovation and entrepreneurship. This year, the Connecticut Invention Convention has over 1,000 inventors from 217 schools participating. As a result, the convention needs at least 15% more judges this year.

To register, enter the Judges On-Line System Registration. Judges should register as a "STANDARD" Judge unless you have been asked by a Sponsor to be a Sponsor Judge. Judges Nominations close on Wednesday, April 15 at 2 p.m.

Information about the 2015 Connecticut Invention Convention can be found on the website.

FIRST Ladies Experts in STEM Google Hangout

On Wednesday, March 18, at 7:30 p.m. EDT, FIRST Ladies will be collaborating with the FIRST VISTA program for a Google Hangout featuring experts in STEM fields.

This hangout will take place "on-air" so no sign up is required. On the date/time of the event, the link to the hangout will be posted on the Facebook event.

Behind the Design

As Stephanie Slezycki mentioned during the Pioneer Valley event last weekend, FIRST will be documenting the 2015 competition season with a book titled "FIRST Behind the Design: Modern Design, Manufacturing and Control of Robots."

Five FRC teams will be featured for each of the six chapters to show how these concepts can be applied on FRC teams. Teams that are interested in submitting material to be considered for publication are encouraged to thoroughly document the team's design process with photos (350 dpi resolution) and a narrative of the team's experience.

Interested teams should email FRCBook2015@usfirst.org with their contact information to receive more information.

Consent and Release Form Reminder

Teams are reminded that they only need to bring paper copies of the NE FIRST Consent and Release form to their first NE FIRST District Event.

If they did not complete the FIRST Consent and Release forms electronically, paper copies must be brought to each event they are attending this season.

District Event Volunteer Reminder

All teams competing in the NE District Events must provide at least one event volunteer. Several NE District Events are in need of key volunteers with either technical or FIRST experience, such as Robot Inspectors and Referees. Volunteers should sign up through VIMS ASAP. Descriptions of event volunteer positions can be found in the Volunteer section of the FIRST website.
