Hello Everyone,

First, I would like to wish all of you a heartfelt Happy Holidays and a healthy and prosperous New Year. Our Solar Flow-Through team is excited about the prospects for 2014 as we move projects forward and prepare for another application round for Ontario's FIT program.

In our December issue, you'll learn about these developments and more, including the positive growth outlook for solar PV projects and how small businesses can reduce energy costs, build brand reputation and even generate cash flow with solar PV installations. We also share some insight into the Canadian solar industry's response to the Ontario government's recently released Long Term Energy Plan.

I hope you enjoy this month's edition of Watts Current.

Solar Flow-Through Prepares for Another Year of Growth

Solar Flow-Through is actively working with several solar developers to advance their Ontario Power Authority (OPA) FIT 2.0 and 2.1 projects. Our team has been meeting with other OPA-qualified solar developers to discuss financing for additional projects.

In November, the OPA announced that the application process for the Small FIT 3.0 program was open. Solar Flow-Through is currently meeting with solar developers working on application submissions for this round of project awards. We're also making progress toward completing our own FIT 3.0 applications. We plan to submit our completed applications this month.

Another exciting opportunity on the horizon for Solar Flow-Through is the opening of the Competitive Procurement Process for utility-scale renewable energy projects. The process is expected to begin this spring. We are currently in preliminary discussions with a number of solar developers with large ground mount projects.

Small Businesses Save Costs with Solar Energy

Solar energy installations can help businesses minimize their environmental impact, reduce electricity costs and help build a brand that supports corporate social responsibility. With dramatically reduced equipment prices and a growing number of government incentive programs, the ROI for solar power investment continues to improve.

Double-Digit Growth in Global Solar PV Installations in 2014

Global solar PV installations are expected to increase about 15% next year, according to analysis by market research company IHS. Solar installations are forecast to be in the range of 40-42 GW in 2014, up from 35 GW in 2013. Looking ahead, IHS says it does not expect a shortage of PV component supply in 2014 and believes prices should remain stable.

Ontario's Long Term Energy Plan Includes Commitment to Solar Energy

The Ontario government recently released its Long Term Energy Plan for the province. The plan includes a commitment to procuring 140 MW of solar in both 2014 and 2015 through the competitive large renewable procurement process, in addition to the 200 MW of solar under the FIT and microFIT programs.

The Canadian Solar Industries Association (CanSIA) has responded positively to the solar PV targets outlined in the plan, citing improved market stability and lower costs. "The Ontario government's acknowledgement of all the solar platforms - residential and commercial rooftop and utility scale solar - shows that they recognize solar's contribution to conservation, job creation, and balance in Ontario's energy mix," says John Gorman, President and CEO of CanSIA.

Did you know?

Solar energy system hosting isn't cost-prohibitive; in fact, solar can pay you dividends. Feed-in tariff programs allow you to gain a new revenue stream from your unused roof space and land with no upfront capital costs.

And you don't have to maintain complicated solar equipment yourself. Solar energy companies offer maintenance and operations services that constantly monitor the system remotely and quickly dispatch service personnel when needed.

Expanding Our Project Portfolio in 2014

Looking back on 2013, Solar Flow Through has many achievements to be proud of. Hard to believe, but it was barely a year ago that our first Limited Partner units went to market.

We have come a long way since, but there's more to look forward to as we head into the New Year.
