Hello everyone,

Solar Flow-Through has a lot to look forward to in the upcoming months. Following a successful, $10 million closing of a private placement last week, we're heading into a new round of contract applications for the Ontario solar power market.

We bring you this news and more in our October newsletter including a promising outlook for the U.S. solar market, industry-shaping alliances emerging in Canada and ground-breaking research in the manufacturing of solar panels that could drive market growth by reducing costs.

I hope you enjoy this month's edition of Watts Current.

Solar Flow-Through Raises
$10 Million in First Closing of Private Placement

Solar Flow-Through Limited Partners has successfully raised $10 million after the second closing of a private placement initiated in August 2013. We plan to use the funds for development and operation of the 52 commercial rooftop solar projects recently awarded to the Company and our partners through the Ontario Power Authority's (OPA) Small FIT 2.1 program. These projects are expected to be developed over the next 18 months.

We are excited to be participating in the Small FIT 3.0 program, which begins in November, and the money raised through the private placement will also help support that initiative. The OPA expects to award approximately 123.5 MW AC in contracts under this next procurement window.

We are also planning to research large ground-mount projects (500 kW to 10 MW) with solar developers to take part in the 2014 OPA Competitive Procurement Process.

Why US Solar Market Growth is Poised to Explode

Deutsche Bank has offered a bullish projection on the solar power market. Analysts point out that solar has already reached grid parity in ten states and will soon reach grid parity in 12 others. Renewable energy corporations are getting smarter about how they're structured, and the tax benefits could reduce solar financing costs while providing a significant amount of liquidity. Deutsche Bank's analysts are also projecting a frenzy of new installations as the expiration of the solar investment tax credit approaches. Another positive indicator is the boom in solar leasing which allows residents to install solar for free and avoid maintenance costs.

Advancements in Nanoparticles Improving Solar Panel Manufacturing Costs

University of Alberta researchers have designed nanoparticles that absorb light and conduct electricity from two very common elements: phosphorus and zinc. The research team has developed a synthetic method to produce zinc phosphide nanoparticles which can be dissolved to form an ink and processed to make thin films that are responsive to light. The use of abundant materials that will lower cost while improving efficiency represents an important step forward in making solar power more accessible.

First Solar and GE Seal Deal in Canada

First Solar, the world's leading manufacturer of thin film solar, announced the sale of a collection of Canadian solar projects totaling 50 megawatts to an investment partnership led by GE. Instead of going head-to-head in the marketplace, the two heavyweights are joining forces. The sale could be the beginning of a new wave of similar sales. All of the power plants are located in Ontario and were built under 20-year power purchase agreements with the Ontario Power Authority.
