There's nothing slow about this summer for Solar Flow-Through and our supporters. in June and July we hit significant milestones toward creating a strong position in the solar power industry.

In this edition of Watts Current, we share out latest and greatest achievement: 41 percent of our Small FIT program applications were awarded contracts.

You'll also learn about the work utilities companies in Arizona are doing to make residential rooftop solar power installation available to all. And we've hit upon some interesting news in the auto space that may spark your imagination.

Enjoy.

Solar Flow-Through's Network Awarded 52 Contracts in Ontario

Solar Flow-Through has had another exciting month of progress toward becoming a significant player in the development of Ontario's clean energy economy. In July, our network of solar developers was awarded 52 contracts under the Ontario Power Authority's (OPA) Small Fit 2.1 program.

In June we announced that 70 out of 126 initial applications to the program submitted by our solar power development partners had advanced to the final approval stage. On July 3, the OPA published the list of projects awarded contracts, of which 52 were projects submitted by Solar Flow-Through's partners.

The contracts are for commercial rooftop projects totaling 12.8 MW AC under fixed purchase rates that are guaranteed for 20 years. Two First Nation bands and a community co-op are our partners on the projects which are expected to undergo development starting this year and continuing into 2014.

Solar Flow-Through plans to submit new applications for the Small FIT 3 procurement window which will begin in the fall of 2013. The OPA has said it expects to award approximately 123.5 MW AC in contracts in this next round.

Push for Affordable Residential Rooftop Solar Installation in Arizona

Recent reports show a growing number of Arizona residents are turning to solar panels to meet their energy needs. Tens of thousands have bought or leased rooftop solar panels over the past six years. Yet, for many low-income families the upfront costs pose a major financial hurdle. Some utilities company and advocacy groups are coming up with creative solutions to help lower-income families harness the power of the sun and dramatically reduce their energy bills.

Did you know?
It is totally possible to power your entire home from solar power. The average home requires a 300 to 600 sq ft. solar panel to completely generate enough solar power to fulfill your home energy needs. Most home solar power systems last between 25 and 35 years.
Building a Strong Foundation
We've established a strong base from which to build our position in Ontario's solar powered future. This summer has been golden for us and our partners.
