February Momentum Newsletter

Earlier this month, FC Bikes partnered with Vida Sana to host its Bike Winter events in Spanish for the first time. The Winter Cycling 101 presentation, given by Vida Sana promotoras, was the most well-attended presentation of the Bike Winter season!  The Guided Ride offerings even had to be expanded due to the amount of interest in the program.  Bike mechanic demonstrations and children's activities, like helmet decorating and coloring books, added to the success of the event.  Thanks to all who were involved in the effort!

Safe Routes to School Instructor Training
Saturday, February 28 from 9:30am to 1:30pm

Bike Fort Collins is looking for a few more instructors to help support the City's school rotation plan. Safe Routes to School programming will be rotating trough all the elementary schools in PSD every three years with extensive bike and pedestrian safety lessons. Instructors teach our own curriculum in the PE classes for two weeks: one week in the gym and the second week outside on bikes. If you like riding your bike and working with kids then you may want to become an instructor. Please contact Dot Dickerson at  [email protected] for more information or to sign up.  Our instructors are paid through grants from Colorado Department of Transportation and City funding.

National Bike Summit

March 10-12 in Washington D.C.
The theme of the 2015 National Bike Summit perfectly describes the League's new strategic direction: bikes add value in so many ways.

This year's theme -- Bikes+ -- focuses on new ideas for exponential growth and building strong partnerships to get us there. We'll zero in on how the bike movement can add value to other issues and find powerful champions in health, community development and the business sector. For more information or to register, please visit http://bikeleague.org/content/summit-2015.

Bicycle Ambassadors want northern Colorado to be the safest place to ride a bike, whether on the street or a trail. We train people of all ages and abilities to become ambassadors of safe cycling. Afterwards, they work to reduce the number of motor vehicle/bicycle/pedestrian crashes in our community by increasing knowledge and awareness about how to ride and share roads and trails safely.

What do we offer?

  • One-hour bicycle safety education presentations for kids, families, businesses, senior groups or any group of six or more people.
  • Education at community events. We can staff a booth, set up a bike skills course and more!

Check out bicycleambassadorprogram.org for more information.
