Flood Updates
Greetings!

We wanted to send out an update regarding recent changes and impacts to events, roads, trails  and communities due to the devastating flooding that occurred last week.  As you probably know, the impact to communities across the region is significant;  extensive rebuilding, restoration and clean-up will be underway for some time to come.  As a cyclist, please be safe when riding and be respectful of road and trail closures.  Links to various sites are listed below with information on the current closures.  Even roads that may not be closed to traffic, like Rist Canyon, Buckhorn, Poudre Canyon and the Eden Valley area, are busy with road crews.  Let's be sensitive to our incredibly hard working road crews and communities that are suffering, and allow them the time and space they need.

Our landscape may look very different in the future as many areas have been washed away and destroyed.  One thing our region is known for is pulling together and rebuilding after we are hit by these unfortunate natural disasters.  Already, this event has proven to be no different.  Let's continue to be resilient, support our neighbors and move forward from this disaster an even stronger community!

RESCHEDULED Bicyclist and Pedestrian Counts: We only need 12 more volunteers!

Saturday, Tuesday, & Thursday, September 21, 24, 26

DUE TO THE FLOODING IMPACTS AND TRAIL CLOSURES, WE HAVE DECIDED TO RESCHEDULE ALL OF THE COUNT DATES. Please help us fill the last few counts spots and thanks for your continued commitment to improving bicycling and walking in our community!

The City of Fort Collins is conducting bicyclist and pedestrian counts at 16 strategically chosen locations in September and we need your help!  The methodology is based on the recommended practice in the National Bicycle and Pedestrian Documentation Project, and the data will support our understanding and promotion of cycling and walking in Fort Collins.

Volunteers are needed to fill 82 two-hour shifts over the course of three days, and you are more than welcome to sign up for multiple timeslots! Please see the updated list of opportunities list in this attached document for a list of dates, times and map of locations.  To sign up, please visit Volunteer Spot. *

Local Bike Classes & Events

CANCELED: 5th Annual CSU Ram Bicycle Classic

The past week's events have been incredibly difficult for many of our neighbors along the Front Range. After many meetings, discussions with Larimer County and City officials, and a lot of angst, it is with great regret that we have to cancel the 2013 Ram Bicycle Classic.

With the catastrophe that has hit Colorado this past week, we are faced with disastrous conditions: heavily damaged roads and bridges, law enforcement and medics assigned to evacuations and disaster relief, bike lanes and trails which are underwater or full of debris. Our RBC routes wind right through much of the devastation.

We have considered all our options carefully: rerouting, moving to a later date, and trimming the event to a shorter ride.  In the end, our only option is to cancel, which was solidified by Colorado State Patrol who notified us this morning that the event was not possible.

Proceeds raised from the event were intended to support sustainability scholarships and initiatives on campus with four groups: Institute for the Built Environment, Global Social & Sustainable Enterprise, School of Global Environmental Sustainability, and Conservation Leadership Through Learning. Each of these programs are at the forefront of CSU's effort to create a better world through global leadership and sustainability. We appreciate the support from all those who registered as well as our generous sponsors.

We are keenly aware that you gave us your trust along with your money. Thus, all registrations and sponsorships will still be used to support the beneficiary groups as planned. Due to the impact of this weekend's disaster, the Ride Committee has decided to share any funds raised, after expenses, with CSUCares - a charity established to help victims of the floods. If you have questions or would prefer to receive a refund, please contact RBC Ride Co-Director Dot Dickerson directly at [email protected] by Sept. 27, 2013.

We are extremely grateful for the important support provided by our riders and many outstanding sponsors, particularly title sponsor TIAA-CREF. While the situation is unfortunate, we know we are making the right decision for our community, riders, and supporters. With the 2013 RBC, we were on track for our biggest and best ride yet. We plan to keep the momentum moving forward, and sincerely hope you will join us in making next year's RBC the best ride ever. We're already preparing for next year!!

If you purchased a jersey, it will be available for pick up by Sept. 23 at Rockwell North, Colorado State University Campus, 638 S. Sherwood Street, Fort Collins, CO.  Or, you can pick it up at the Bike Fort Collins Booth at FORToberfest in Old Town Fort Collins on Saturday, Sept. 21 between 2 and 7 p.m.

Road and Trail Closures
Trail Closures Updates
The Poudre Trail remains closed from Lions Open Space to I-25. Due to flooding, erosion and tree instability, the City urges you to stay off the Poudre Trail at this time. Please visit the trail status/closure page for updated information on trail closures and detours.  Additionally, construction on the Spring Creek Trail underpass at Creekside park has been delayed due to the rain.
County Road Closures
FC Bikes also encourages cyclists to respect County road closures and rebuilding efforts. County road closure information can be found here
Max Construction Delays
Wet weather has delayed the paving and restriping of Mason this week.  We still want to encourage cyclists to avoid riding on southbound on Mason until the paving is complete. Additionally, completion of construction on the Spring Creek Trail underpass at Creekside park has been delayed until early October due to the rain. Lastly, the Troutman Underpass will be closed until the end of the month for construction.  For more information, please visit Max Construction.
