Obesity and Workplace Injuries

As an employer, have you ever considered linking your wellness and safety initiatives for increased success? Four hundred million adults are obese. Such a pandemic involves people of working age. Excess weight imposes abnormal mechanics on body movements, which could account for the high incidence of musculoskeletal disorders in these subjects. This article reviews the physiological and biomechanical causes of the reduced work capacity in obese workers and speculates on the relationships between occupational exposure and obesity.

St. Mary's At Work Injury Prevention Services

When people hear the words rehab, occupational therapy, or physical therapy, they immediately think of a reactive approach to someone who has been injured or is recovering from pain that developed within the workplace. Today, health systems and employers are taking a different spin on injuries, focusing much more on prevention and overall safety within the workplace.  St. Mary's occupational and physical therapists play a large role in this prevention through St. Mary's At Work.

St. Mary's "Everyday Victories"

What is an Everyday Victory?  Everyday Victories are the many things - big and small - that St. Mary's experiences along with our patients every day.  They are things that connect us to each other.  Maybe it's scheduling a mammogram or making an appointment with a St. Mary's doctor.  We know some of these victories may seem small by themselves.  But, when multiplied, they add up to much bigger victories - triumphing over cancer, welcoming new additions, surviving heart attacks.
