Are you Ready for Another Challenge?
As you know, the New London Meal Center needs more than just food. In February we collected paper towels. And last month we collected napkins. Another necessity they are in need of is dish soap. In an effort to help defray the cost of this item, the YES and UP classes would like to challenge each family in the congregation to bring in at least ONE bottle of dish soap for the month of April. They will then be donated to the New London Meal Center. All donations can be placed in the YES classroom. Are YOU up to the challenge?

On-going Collection
There is a donation box, outside of the Parish Hall, to collect items for the TVCCA (Thames Valley Council for Community Action). This is an on-going collection. They are always in need of clothing, small household appliances, toys, books, hygiene items, baby related items -diapers, wipes, etc..., blankets, twin sized sheets, towels, wash cloths, cleaning supplies - bleach, liquid dish soap, and liquid laundry detergent. The items do NOT need to be new, but should be washed and in like-new condition.

Coming to a Parish Hall Near You! African Team Ministries' jewelry and crafts will be on sale in the parish hall on Sunday, May 4th, and Sunday, May 11th, after both services. All monies are returned to East Africa. If you would like to help with the sale, please see Diana Flanagan.
From ATM's website www.africanteamministries.org...African Team Ministries is a Christian ministry working as an intermediary between African and American churches. With help from Episcopal, Methodist, Presbyterian, Lutheran, and Anglican denominations, we provide funding for orphan and refugee relief missions and evangelism in East Africa.
The support we receive is sent directly to our partnering Bishops to provide school fees, tuition, books, and uniforms. This support ensures that the children receive an education and a measure of stability needed to rebuild their minds. We currently have children registered for sponsorship in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

Outreach Tidbits...
...Hilda Zeigler delivered your 50 "welcome bags" to the New London Homeless Hospitality Center on Tuesday, April 15th. Each laundry bag contained a chap stick, toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, soap, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, combs or brushes, wash cloth, hand towel, q-tips, mouth wash, 2 pairs of warm socks, and 2 pairs of underpants. Thank you to all the parishioners who donated items to fill these bags; thank you to Ken & Lisa Nogacek (again) for donating the toothbrushes, toothpastes, and dental flosses; and thank you to the parishioners who helped stuff the bags on Palm Sunday.
...a large bin of plastic Easter Eggs stuffed with toys & candy was delivered to the TVCCA Shelter on Good Friday for the children in residence to have their own Easter Egg Hunt. Thank you to all the parishioners who donated candy and to those who helped stuff those eggs!
...your Groton Regency Team: Leslie Aiken, Karen Albot, Ray Brown, Susan Fiegel, Pete Hall, and Leslie Leone delivered over 200 palm crosses on Palm Sunday to our friends there. Thank you to the parishioners (which included several YES students) for making the palm crosses AND the Groton Regency Team delivered cotton ball bunnies to the residents on Easter Sunday, crafted by the Outreach Team at their last meeting.

Missing Easter Flower Dedications
Our sincerest apologies to Peg Donahue, The Forbes, The Nogaceks, Nancy Randall, and Pete Hall. Their Easter flower dedications were not included in the Easter bulletin due to a mix-up with the counters. The counters and church office will all work to make sure it does not happen again in the future.
|
Community Service Dinner
We are in need of a few more Shepherd's Pies and bags of green beans for the monthly meal we host at the New London Community Meal Center. If you are interested in helping, there is a sign-up sheet by the door in the gathering space. You may, contact the church office for more information, 860.464.6516.

For Gents' Eyes Only
In honor of Mother's Day on May 11, each year the gentlemen of Saint David's are traditionally given the opportunity to roll out the red carpet in celebration of motherhood. Therefore, it will again be your mission to serve as the dashingly debonair hosts at a special coffee fellowship following the 10:15 worship service. So come on guys, huddle up and brainstorm some heavenly ways to bestow your love and gratitude to all the extraordinary moms, grandmas, stepmoms and Godmothers within the parish community.

Parishioner's Work on Display
William Rae from St. David's is an accomplished wood worker who turns out all kinds of wood products from his wood working studio at home. This week I learned that April 26-May 24 William is exhibiting his wood creations (bowls, platters, furniture, etc.) at the Hygienic Galleries, 79 Bank St. in New London. I think it would be great if we could visit the exhibit and tell Will our appreciation and admiration of his wood working skills. Gallery hours are Tues-Thurs. 11-3 pm, Fri. and Sat. 11-6pm, and Sunday 12-3pm. The opening exhibit is Sat. April 26th 7-10 pm. Gallery phone number: 860-443-8001. The Gallery will showcase many regional artists who work with wood including William. May God continue to bless William Rae and his family in every way.
