 Service Changes for Fall 2013
Service changes are underway for fall 2013. You will see some improved bus stops on routes 9 and 25 with safer options for riders. There will no longer be bus stops in the Chapel Hills Mall parking lot. Both routes 9 and 25 have been redesigned to use the new Voyager Parkway transfer station. These routes will also utilize the new stop on Jamboree Drive for accessibility to Chapel Hills Mall. Additionally, route 14 will extend to Doherty High School, via Oro Blanco Drive and Barnes Road, to offer students and others increased service.
To provide riders more efficient bus service, MMT is implementing a bus stop standardization project. This project is designed to standardize the distance between bus stops. The spacing will be approximately 1300 ft. between each stop; this distance is used by many transit agencies in the USA with good results. The distance between bus stops will be a general rule and can vary slightly under certain situations. Other considerations, most importantly safety, will be applied when determining bus stop locations.
Metro Mobility riders will see some changes when making reservations. Advance reservations will be taken up to 3 days in advance rather than 7 days. This should help alleviate some trip cancellations and free up reservationists to take more calls. |

New ADA Coordinator
Mountain Metro has a new ADA Coordinator, Jennifer Wilson. Jennifer is not only well qualified for her position, she also brings with her something that you can't necessarily discover in a resume or a job history or an employment test and that's her passion to work with the disabled community. "I have 5 members of my family who are disabled and I believe that everyone who uses our public transportation system should be treated like family," said Jennifer.
Jennifer comes to MMT from Veolia Transportation. At Veolia Jennifer functioned in a dual role as customer advocate and administrative manager. Jennifer was also a paratransit driver when she first started at Veolia which gives her grassroots experience that you just don't get sitting behind a desk.
Jennifer commented, "I think my biggest challenge will be staying ahead of the many revisions and changes to the Americans with Disabilities Act in order to be proactive and serve our community." We have all the confidence in the world that Jennifer will do a fabulous job and if you have any questions or comments for Jennifer she can be reached a 719-385-5620 or jewilson@springsgov.com.
In case you're wondering what happened to John Oliphint, the previous ADA Coordinator, we're not letting him go! John has moved into a new role as Contract Compliance Coordinator for Mountain Metro. |

School Pool - A Great Option for Parents
The 2013/14 school year is right around the corner and Mountain Metro Rides School Pool could be a great option for parents. The Metro Rides program provides a free carpool matching service for parents. It's easy to sign up, just fill out a school pool application and send it in; you'll receive a list of parents in your neighborhood with children who attend the same school. You can then contact each other to start a carpool. Parents whose children attend local schools that do not provide bus service, such as charter schools, can benefit greatly from this program.
School pools help reduce congestion at school drop-off and pick-up areas, save time and money and help improve air quality by reducing the number of vehicles on the roadways. For more information call 385-RIDE or visit Mountain Metro Rides online.
If school pool does not turn up a match the city bus may be a good option; bus fare for youth 18 and under is only .85 cents per ride. |
