Patent Research 101 - Presented in 2 Sessions

Part 1 - Wednesday June 12, 2013

1:00 pm -2:00 pm Eastern (10:00 am Pacific)

How well do you really know patents?  Patent bibliographic data is complex and presents many challenges to novice searchers.  This presentation will address patent fundamentals, from the meaning of all those dates on the patent face, to the mystery of kind codes, to the construction and utility of different types of patent families.

Speaker:  Kristin Whitman, Reference Librarian at Landon IP and founding member of intellogist.com

Part 2 - Wednesday June 19, 2013

1:00 pm -2:00 pm Eastern (10:00 am Pacific)

Patent research is like putting a jigsaw puzzle together without the guide. There's oddly shaped pieces that researchers have to try to fit together. But where do you go to find those pieces? How do you fit the relevant ones together? How do you filter the irrelevant pieces from your results? This presentation will survey both free and commercial resources to turn to for patent research and best practices for conducting efficient prior art research.

Speaker:  Chris Vestal LexisNexis Government Consultant and patent search expert
