PLL-SIS Executive Board Call
March 28, 2013
The meeting was called to order at 12:01 p.m. EST, with the following attendees:
Linda-Jean Schneider, Chair
Elaine Knecht, Treasurer
Kristine Lloyd, Secretary
Cameron Gowan, Board Member
Scott Snipes, Board Member
The first order of business was the approval of last month's board meeting minutes. Kristine moved to approve the minutes, and Scott seconded the motion.
Elaine then provided a Treasurer's Report and reported that no money was spent since our last meeting.
Our next order of business was the AALL Annual Meeting. Linda-Jean reported that the PLL Business Luncheon is set and will be held on July 14th. April 15th is the deadline for the program speaker control forms. Steve is coordinating and moderating the PLL-SIS-sponsored program which is entitled "Surrounded by Geniuses" and will include speakers Stephanie Barnes and Connie Crosby. We are unsure about what Hot Topics will be covered at the annual meeting.
We then transitioned into a discussion of PLL Awards. Linda-Jean reported that Sarah Mauldin has been reminding members to nominate individuals for our annual awards.
The next agenda item concerned our bylaws. Linda-Jean reminded us that voting ends on April 9th, and as of our discussion, there have not been any "no" votes with over 350 members participating in the election to date.
Linda-Jean then reported on behalf of the Communications Committee. The committee is working with Ellen Callinan and Kevin Miles to repair links on the website, as well as update forms and the various pages that have not been updated recently. Emily Florio will be leading the next webinar on April 17th. The title of the webinar is "Follow the Virtual Breadcrumbs: Tracking Elusive Trademark Infringers."
Linda-Jean asked the Board to review our e-Newsletter and make comments or suggestions for improvement as needed. Scott has been ensuring that members contribute to the publication.
Our next order of business was grants. Linda-Jean was going to send out another reminder to the list-serv on March 28th. We have received three applications so far: one for the Summit and two for travel expenses. Applications are due April 1st. Linda-Jean would like to recommend that AALL consider moving the deadline closer to the date of the annual meeting in the future.
The next agenda item was a report on the PLL Membership Survey. Linda-Jean stated that 538 people responded to the survey. The intent of the survey was primarily to help us formulate our future strategic plans based on the needs and suggestions of the membership.
Next, we discussed the Nominations Committee and our slate of candidates for the upcoming PLL Board election. Candidates have been announced, and the election will be held from April 10th-April 25th.
Kristine then reported on the Procedures Manual. She has edited and updated about 75% of the manual. She is still waiting to receive updates from a few groups and committees. Her goal is to complete the manual by mid-May.
Our next agenda item was the Summit. Linda-Jean reported that Bruce MacEwen of the Adam Smith blog will be our keynote speaker. David Lat of Above The Law will be the lunchtime speaker. The committee is currently deciding whether or not to incur the cost for recording programming.
Next, Linda-Jean reported on the LLAGNY Showcase Event which is an event jointly sponsored by LLAGNY, and SLA. The event will follow the day long Information Management Evolution Conference in New York on April 25th. The event, entitled "After the Evolution" will be comprised of strategic kiosks informing guests about knowledge management, competitive intelligence, cost-cutting, e-books, etc., similar to the LLSDC showcase held in 2012.
Our final agenda item concerned committee reports. There will be an upcoming Section Leader Call on April 9th to discuss committee duties and reporting. Scott reported that he will be the new liaison to the Association of Legal Administrators
Our next call is to be announced.
The meeting adjourned at 12:38 p.m. EST. |
