December 2011
PFLA Private Forest Matters
|
Greetings! Welcome to the December edition of PFLA Private Forest Matters. It's chock full of seasonal tips, BMP reminders, relevant news and upcoming events. We hope you find the information useful, and welcome any comments or suggestions you have. As always, thanks for reading! |
Notable Shifts and Changes:
Tembec For those of you who haven't heard, Tembec recently announced plans to sell its Elko and Canal Flats sawmills, along with the associated lumber and cutting rights, to Canfor Corp. We're happy to report, Tembec will retain its private land in the Elk Valley and continue to be a valuable member of the Private Forest Landowners Association (PFLA).
Trevor Swan We're sad to say, Trevor Swan has resigned as chair of the Private Forest Managed Land Council (PMFLC). An active participant in private land regulation since 1995, Mr. Swan was involved in drafting the current legislation, as well as the Private Land Forest Practices Regulation. PFLA is sincerely grateful to Mr. Swan for his contribution to private forest land and we wish him all the best for the future.
Rod Visser In other PMFLC news, Rod Visser was recently appointed, by the provincial government, as one of two minister appointees to the Private Managend Forest Land Council. PFLA warmly welcomes Mr. Visser to the world of private forest land and looks forward to working with him.

Out and About with the PFLA:
Healthy Forests, Healthy Communities - Dialogue Session
In the spirit of ensuring the perspective of private forest landowners is represented, PFLA attended the community dialogue session held in Port Alberni, November 14, 2011. We're encouraged to report that most of the evening's discussions centred around economic concerns rather than worries about environmental protection.

Thanks again for taking the time to read this month's edition of PFLA Private Forest Matters.
Say, have you seen the PFLA Facebook page lately? We make a conscious effort to educate and inform. In doing so, we strive to share relevant and interesting information. We also like to keep things balanced by walking on the lighter side, every now and again.
In short, we're having a pretty good time over there. Along with our own content, we're gathering a collection of interesting, thought provoking and sometimes entertaining posts. Videos, stories, photos - a little something for everyone - Russian logging trucks, deer management tips, and the must see "Wood is Good!" animation. Go on. Take a look. Let us know what you think.
Sincerely, Rod Bealing, Executive Director
