The focus of this issue of PFLA Private Forest Matters is the PFLA Public Policy Development Update.

The PFLA Regulatory Committee is engaged in a record number of policy areas. PFLA member input is an important part of this process.

Here's the link to the PFLA blog with the full policy development highlights.

Please let us know if you have any questions, comments, or if you'd like more information on any of the policy areas we're working on.

We look forward to hearing from you!

September 2011

PFLA Private Forest Matters

Greetings!

Welcome to the September edition of PFLA Private Forest Matters! This summer shaped up to be an active time for the Private Forest Landowners Association (PFLA).

Immersed in an exceptionally long list of public policy developments, we've put together a summary of highlights to update you on the projects we're working on.

We're also pretty fired up about a few community events, and think you'll agree: nothing says fun quite like crowds of kids (and maybe a few adults) racing green vegetables down plywood ramps.

That's right, we're the proud sponsor of the inaugural zucchinni racing competition at the Cowichan Exhibition - Sept. 9th through 11th. The weekend promises a steady supply of entertainment, education and inspiration.

We hope to see you there!
Cowichan Exhibition - Sept. 9-11, 2011

What's 143 years old, last three days and packs enough fun to entertain 20,000 people? You guessed it: The Cowichan Exhibition - September 9th through 11th, 2011.

This year's theme is "Trees of the Valley" and we couldn't be more excited about it. The PFLA is setting up an info booth and we look forward to connecting with folks as passionate about trees, farming and agriculture as we are. ... read more»

Make yourself comfortable. There's a lot to report. The PFLA continues to work diligently with federal, provincial and local governments on an unprecedentedly long list of public policy areas:

  1. Fire Prevention and Cost Sharing Agreements
  2. Off-road Vehicles Regulations
  3. Private Managed Forest Land Act
  4. Migratory Birds Convention Act - Regulation of Incidental Take
  5. BC Species at Risk Task Force Report
  6. Water Act Modernization
  7. BC Log Export Policy Review

The objective of PFLA's involvement, in all cases, is to:
  • remind government that private land exists
  • demonstrate why policy distinction is necessary for private land
  • ensure our communication with all forms of government is consistent and ongoing
  • promote and advance the PFLA mission
  • demonstrate we are responsible stewards working to balance environment, community and commerce

We're still stretching our muscles and limbering up with the new communication tools. We'd love to hear what you think: leave us a comment on the blog, like our Facebook page, or follow us on Twitter.

Of course, we also graciously accept emails and good ol' fashioned telephone calls.

We look forward to hearing from you.
