Lawrence medalist Dubrow at UO June 15
The Lawrence Medal will be presented to Gail Dubrow at the A&AA commencement ceremony on Monday, June 15, at 6 p.m. on the south lawn of the Knight Library (near the School of Music and Dance). Reservations are not required. Dubrow is an accomplished scholar, educator, and social historian.

Building evacuation research wins 1st place

Architecture graduate student Olivia Asuncion placed first for the Best Student Design Award in an international competition by the Environmental Design Research Association in May. Asuncion hopes her research will encourage designers to make building evacuation more accessible to people with physical disabilities.  Read more 

Gilman Scholars: 5 of 11 are A&AA students

Five of the 11 students awarded Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships to fund their summer 2015 study abroad programs are students in the School of Architecture and Allied Arts. They include Halley Anderson, Josie Christensen, Alfredo Gonzalez-Cruz, Zak Johnson, and Amanda Oliver.   Read more 

Park nets Excellence in Pedagogy award
John Park, career instructor in the Digital Arts Program, has been awarded the Thomas F. Herman Award for Excellence in Pedagogy. With communities migrating to an increasingly digital-dependent lifestyle, Park stresses the social, environmental, and economic implications of this shift.  Read more

Unthank honored with installation, award
DeNorval "De" Unthank, Jr., a prolific architect of Oregon buildings and the School of Architecture and Allied Arts' first African-American graduate, will soon have a memorial in his name installed permanently in Lawrence Hall. An annual $5,000 award in his name is also being initiated.  Read more

When Chelsea Karrels, MArch '12, was hired at a firm in Minnesota, she knew her job involved assessing the condition and integrity of buildings, bridges, and monuments. She didn't anticipate, however, that her job would take her rappelling down a thirteen-story Mayo Clinic building.   Read more

Centennial: 2010s look forward to new A&AA home  

Above: A&AA is wrapping up its 100th anniversary this month after a full year of events, exhibitions, and celebrations. In envisioning the school's future, the A&AA Building Project Work Group in January issued a request for proposals from student teams for a design competition for a new A&AA. In May, the finalists were announced. Read more
