Third-Graders Depict History of Portland
The third-grade classes joined forces last week to perform song and skits that were informative as well as entertaining. The topics included the Lewis and Clark voyage, the naming of Portland, the Vanport flood, the struggle for womens' right to vote, and other important events in the history of Portland. Much Ado About Nothing
The Visual and Performing Arts department capped off their MainStage season with "Much Ado About Nothing" by William Shakespeare. The play was directed by David Gomes, with a set designed by Cameron Jack. The production was performed in front of more than 400 community members over four nights. Highlights of the production included a backdrop designed and painted by freshman artist Ella C., as well as farewell shows for many longtime senior performers and techies. Many thanks to all the faculty, staff, parents, and supporters whose support made this production possible! Click here to view photos by John Holloran.

Exploring the Wetlands
Ms. Rozzi's seventh grade science class and Ms. McAuley's Kindergarten class teamed up to do a seventh/K buddy exploration of the OES Wetlands.

The Kindergarten students shared what they had learned about the OES wetlands, and the questions they had about water, the wetlands, and turtles.

The seventh graders helped their buddies gather water samples from the wetlands, identify macroinvertibrates, and test the water's quality in the lab. You can read the journal from the Kindergarten student's visit to the lab. View more photos on the OES Facebook page.

Project Second Wind Donations
In 1971, a group of high school students realized that while food donations tend to drop off after the holidays, the need for food does not. In response, they organized a "second wind" of hunger relief efforts after the holidays in December.

Over the last 40 years students participating in Project Second Wind have collected approximately 6,850,000 pounds of food to support Oregon Food Bank's mission. PSW is OES' annual all-school food collection.

All of the food collected goes to Neighborhood House which is one of the Oregon Food Bank's pantries. The Neighborhood House Food Box Program is the largest in Southwest Portland, serving over 400 families a month. Your contributions of canned food, hygiene products and dried goods are much needed! OES will be collecting items through May 13.
