Dear Parents,

Thank you to all who have registered your student(s) for the TEDx Youth Event and Weather Day at Coors Field. Both events will be outstanding learning experiences. Just when you thought the field trips were over, we have added one more for the month of April to coincide with Earth Day.

Earth Day Field Trip

On Monday, April 22, Earth Day, students will be walking from the school to Fly'n B Park for a guided trash pickup with a park ranger. This small donation of our time will allow us to rent out another park free of charge for our middle school field day. Students will depart school after a brief talk from a local park ranger around 9:30 a.m. We will participate in the park cleanup effort for two hours and then come back to school around 11:30 a.m.

Your student(s) will bring home a permission form for you to sign for the day. You also may click here to print and send it with your child to hand in.

TEDx Youth Event
The TEDx Youth Event program will include presentations from nine big thinkers and doers who will take a concise six to 15 minutes to describe a big idea, how they arrived at the insight and any lessons they learned in the process - with some amazing performances in the mix. TEDxYouth@MileHigh speakers come from a wide range of disciplines and backgrounds - expect to be inspired! Learn more about speakers here. The event ends at 5 p.m. downtown at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House. Depending on traffic, we should arrive back at school around 5:45 p.m.

They also will be streaming the event live to the world. If you know anyone with an interest in watching but will not be able to attend, please direct them to new.livestream.com/tedx/tedxyouthmh.

Mission: Our mission is to develop young adults with character like America's founding Renaissance man, Benjamin Franklin: well-read, scientifically curious, and civically engaged.

Vision:
Our students will excel academically through a challenging, sequenced curriculum that emphasizes math, science, and literacy. We will be a data driven institution, focusing on individual students. Our students, teachers, parents, staff, and leaders will be held accountable for the success of our school. Finally, we recognize that an education is incomplete without fostering the arts, sports, nature, and character.

Ben Franklin Academy's 13 Virtues:
Temperance, Silence, Order, Resolution, Frugality, Industry, Sincerity, Justice, Moderation, Cleanliness, Tranquility, Purity and Humility.
