Dear Parents,

Following is a reminder of Ben Franklin Academy's mission and vision statements. You can expect to see them published in our weekly newsletters.

Mission: Our mission is to develop young adults with character like America's founding Renaissance man, Benjamin Franklin: well-read, scientifically curious, and civically engaged.

Vision: Our students will excel academically through a challenging, sequenced curriculum that emphasizes math, science, and literacy. We will be a data driven institution, focusing on individual students. Our students, teachers, parents, staff, and leaders will be held accountable for the success of our school. Finally, we recognize that an education is incomplete without fostering the arts, sports, nature, and character.

Author Visit

Debbie Bernstein LaCroix, author of It's Almost Time, will be visiting Wednesday, Feb. 13. A form was sent home in last week's Thursday folders for K-5 students to order a signed copy if you would like one.

Debbie will talk to the kids about what it's like to write a book, the importance pictures play in a book, what makes great writing and the publishing process. She also will answer any questions your child may have.

Can BFA be the Sweetest SBox Topschool in America?
    Box Tops for Education Update

Currently, the following is how Ben Franklin Academy ranks compared to other participating schools with Box Tops:
    • Seventh out 661 in the area
    • 15th out of 1,619 in the state
    • 1,676th out of 88,910 nationwide
The Sweetest School in America Contest ends Friday, March 1. Think of all the things that we could do for our school if we won the $25,000 prize! We'd like to turn in as many Box Tops as we can before the March 1 deadline to determine if we could be the Sweetest School in America. If you have boxes in the pantry with Box Tops on them, please clip and send them into the classroom by Wednesday, Feb. 13 (collection date). Right now, a number of products have double Box Tops, and WalMart has select items with four Box Tops on them. Anything we clip counts - including regular Box Tops and Bonus Box Tops.
