Dear Preschool Families,

Winter Break is fast approaching!  The school will be closed from Dec. 24 - Jan. 4.  We will resume classes on Monday, Jan. 7.

With the recent arrival of cold weather, please be sure that your child has an extra set of warm clothes in his/her backpack.  You never know when s/he will need a change of clothes.

Nutrition Update

I think we can agree that we want to raise healthy children.  It is hard, however, to keep up with all of the changes about what foods, and quantities, are healthy.

The USDA revises their dietary guidelines every five years.  Their latest release happened in January 2011. The new guidelines focus on what a plate of food should look like.  Did you know that half of your plate should consist of fruits and vegetables? Click here to learn more.

What About the Picky Eater?
A lot of families tell me their child is a picky eater.  Click here for a great link from The Food Friends, a program created by Colorado State University about developing healthy eating habits.  It focuses on tips to help a child try new foods.  Always remember it can take up to 12 times before a child likes a food.

Mrs. Olson overheard Ava-Mae tell her friend, "You pinch your markers, but you don't pinch your friends."
