Dear Preschool Families,

I have some great news....my office will be moving right next to the preschool entrance!  It is a great opportunity to be right next to all of the preschool action.  Construction is scheduled to start soon.  It is perfect timing because we are currently learning about occupations, and we can chart the steps to make a room!

Classroom Highlights

We started to learn all about occupations!  Here are a few highlights:

  • Mrs. Furnier's class were architects and built buildings in the sensory table with foam blocks and shaving cream.
  • Mrs. Olson's class is studying where plants grow.
  • Mrs. Spurgeon's class is making community helper books.
I will always post a few different activities, but please check your teacher's web page for more detailed information.  Each page is password protected to enable us to post pictures for you to view.  Please do not share the password with any people outside of the class.  You can obtain the password through your child's teacher.
Preschool Enrollment

It is time to start thinking about your preschool plans for the 2013-14 schoolyear.  We have the following options for the fall:

  • Tuesday/Thursday: AM
  • Monday/Wednesday/Friday: AM
  • Tuesday/Thursday: Full Day
  • Monday/Wednesday/Friday: Full Day
While all families currently enrolled in the preschool receive priority into the Pre-Kindergarten program, spots available per class are limited to 16.  I will be sending a separate email with a registration form on Wednesday, Nov. 14.  Class availability is based on a first come, first served basis.
Vision Screening
We will be providing free vision screening on Thursday, Nov. 15, and Friday, Nov. 16, through KidSight.

What is KidSight?

KidSight Colorado is a project of the Lions Clubs of Colorado that provides vision screening for young children and education about vision in children.  Vision screening is provided free of charge to children ages 2 to 6 throughout the state of Colorado.

Why Vision Screening?

The first few years of a child's life are critical in the development of good vision.  Preschoolers should have their vision checked for issues such as misaligned eyes and problems that need correction with eyeglasses.  These problems are not always evident by simply looking at a child.  Young children often compensate for vision problems so well that parents, teachers and pediatricians are unaware of a problem.  By the time a child is old enough to be in primary grades, many of these common vision-robbing conditions can no longer be effectively treated.  Amblyopia can develop when an undetected vision problem goes untreated during a child's formative years.  The incidence of amblyopia in the United States is estimated to be 3 percent to 5 percent of the population.  Vision problems also can result in learning difficulties as a child enters the primary grades.

What do I need to do?

In order to participate in this great service, a consent form needs to be completed before Thursday, Nov. 15.  Please click here for the appropriate form.  If you do not want your child to participate, nothing needs to be done.  Your child's vision is priceless, so please take advantage of this great resource.
Original Works

You received a packet from Original Works last week.  Your packet included a masterpiece your child created that can be imprinted on items such as coffee mugs, magnets, bags, etc.  Mrs. Hinkle, our art teacher, set up this great program for families to be able to enjoy their child's artwork in a unique way and raise money.  A portion of the proceeds go directly to the art program, so it's a win-win for all!  The order deadline has been extended, so please return your order forms to me no later than tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 9.

Quote of the Week
Mrs. Spurgeon emailed me her favorite for the week:
"Today in preschool when we were doing the calendar I mentioned, 'Tomorrow is the day your moms and dads will vote.  They will vote who the next president of the United States will be.'  They stared at me, and I realized they were not sure what this was about.  So,  I briefly tried to explain there would be a contest and whoever wins will be the next president.  Then Addison asked, 'So is that who is picking us up tomorrow?'"

Have a great week!

Sincerely,

Kristen Goldberg
