Dear Preschool Families,
Thank you to all of the families who made our Halloween parties a success by helping or simply by being there for your child.
|
Classroom Highlights
The Halloween parties were full of educational fun!
- Science: We made "ghost hands" by mixing a base and an acid to make a gas that created rubber gloves to move mysteriously.
- Sensory: The children explored the sense of touch as they dug into noodles filled with "body parts" (e.g., grapes as eyeballs, carrots as fingers, etc.).
- Fine Motor: 4-year-old classes made scarecrow puppets in which they were able to practice their cutting skills.
- Gross Motor: Witch's hat ring toss worked on their hand-eye coordination.

Vision Screening
We will be providing free vision screening on Thursday, Nov. 15, and Friday, Nov. 16, through KidSight.
What is KidSight?
KidSight Colorado is a project of the Lions Clubs of Colorado that provides vision screening for young children and education about vision in children. Vision screening is provided free of charge to children ages 2 to 6 throughout the state of Colorado.
Why Vision Screening?
The first few years of a child's life are critical in the development of good vision. Preschoolers should have their vision checked for issues such as misaligned eyes and problems that need correction with eyeglasses. These problems are not always evident by simply looking at a child. Young children often compensate for vision problems so well that parents, teachers and pediatricians are unaware of a problem. By the time a child is old enough to be in primary grades, many of these common vision-robbing conditions can no longer be effectively treated. Amblyopia can develop when an undetected vision problem goes untreated during a child's formative years. The incidence of amblyopia in the United States is estimated to be 3 percent to 5 percent of the population. Vision problems also can result in learning difficulties as a child enters the primary grades.
What do I need to do?
In order to participate in this great service, a consent form needs to be completed before Thursday, Nov. 15. Please click here for the appropriate form. If you do not want your child to participate, nothing needs to be done. Your child's vision is priceless, so please take advantage of this great resource.

Original Works
This week, you received a packet from Original Works. Your packet included a masterpiece your child created that can be imprinted on items such as coffee mugs, magnets, bags, etc. Mrs. Hinkle, our art teacher, set up this great program for families to be able to enjoy their child's artwork in a unique way and raise money. A portion of the proceeds go directly to the art program, so it's a win-win for all! The order deadline has been extended, so please return your order forms to me no later than Friday, Nov. 9.

Quote of the Week
Miska had some concerns with his fellow classmates and chose to handle it in a very professional manner. He walked up to his friends, put his arms around them and said, "Could I teach you a lesson?" They replied, "Yes!" He continued, "At lunch, I prefer if you eat with your mouth closed. That way, I do not have to see your food." They were very responsive that day, but I am not sure if that enthusiasm made it to lunch time.
Sincerely,
Kristen Goldberg
