Another Sad Loss

With great sadness we must report of the passing of another of our esteemed industry colleagues.

John Miller passed away on Saturday afternoon, 26th January. He had been recently diagnosed with leukaemia.
John had spent a couple of weeks in St. Vincents Hospital in Sydney and had returned to Griffith Base Hospital last week.
His daughter Louise said John was surrounded by his family throughout this time.

John was a good man who was deeply respected by all who knew him. He had a great laugh and a thoroughly positive outlook on life, and had achieved much in his long career in the photo industry as the proprietor of Griffith Camera House.

He was also one of the founding fathers of the Camera House Group. John will be sadly missed.

Johns' funeral will be held on Thursday 31st January at 10.00am at Sacred Heart Church, Warrambool Street, Griffith.
Following the service, all will be invited to attend the cemetery and then later to the Church Hall for refreshments. In lieu of flowers there will be a donation box at the church for the Leukaemia Foundation.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to Louise and John's family and friends at this sad time.

Our thoughts also go out to any Queensland and Northern NSW members doing it tough through yet another major flood.

Kind Regards

Peter Rose

"We're a memory company" or "Were a memory company"
by Gary Pageau

Here's an interesting interview with Larry Trevathen, Kodak's VP of marketing and retail system solutions. If I was working for kodak I'd be very careful to say WE ARE rather than WE'RE just in case the apostrophe gets lost in translation!

It's been a roller-coaster year for the Eastman Kodak Company. As one of the most recongnizable brands in the world, last year's news of its bankruptcy filing and the intended sale of its personal imaging business spurred speculation in the industry - with many wondering what would happen to Kodak's fleet of photo kiosks and the value of its iconic name.

But the ambiguity began to clear in recent months. Kodak announced in December that it sold its patent portfolio for $527 million, and earlier this week a judge approved a financing deal worth $843.7 million to pay off its existing bankruptcy loan - both key steps toward bringing the photography pioneer out of its financial woes.

At the recent Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Larry Trevarthen, Kodak's VP of marketing and retail system solutions, spoke with Gary Pageau, principal at InfoCircle and blogger for Kiosk Marketplace. Read the interview below for an in-depth discussion about Kodak's current state of business and its plans for the future:

Changing Demographics - Seizing the opportunities DIMACast

I have been fortunate to have had several in depth conversations with Joellyn Gray of Fujifilm USA about the photography industry and have always come away from the conversation informed and impassioned. It is great that a smart operator like Joellyn is actively involved in our industry.

Joellyn did a DIMACast interview towards the end of 2011 that is worth sitting down with a coffee to listen to!
