" Feedback...The breakfast of champions!"

All participants who attended the recent Jerry Courvoisier workshops were asked to complete a survey on the course. Whist there were the inevitable suggestions on ways we can improve future events ,the overall response was very encouraging. These comments were from Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne:

- Given the chance to attend another event, would I attend?  YES, so keep trying and innovating.

- As discussed with Peter, I think it's a great idea conducting workshops and seminars with professional photographers happy to share their knowledge and experience. They can only inspire you to become a better photographer and meet likeminded, friendly people. Thoroughly enjoyed the seminar. Can't wait until the next one! Keep up the great work!

 - Worth a visit, keen for more from real photographers who "made it".

- The workshop was great, I learnt a lot. Although I feel the speaker went a bit too fast sometimes. Me, being an advanced computer user felt it that way. I cannot imagine what it was like for the average user.

But the knowledge I got is priceless.

Thanks a lot.

- It was great seminar & workshop programme. Thank you.

- Fantastic course. Really enjoyed it  but want a follow up now that I have had a chance to try. Many questions still!

- I thought the course was excellent and highlighted the full power of the product.

- The instructor was excellent and really knew the product and the way he assisted all the participants was excellent.

From my understanding and seeing the other participants in the class it was excellent and pitched at the right level.

For what you received the costing was good.

- Good all round result.

- Really enjoyed the venue and the speaker

- Day well worth the money and time - thank you!

- Very keen for more such classes in Brisbane more please lots more

As announced, a 12 month rolling program of educational events is being developed now.

Cheers

Peter Rose

Victorian PMA Arctic Blast John Noyes Classic 2012- by Jeff Crowley

Well it was cold, a little damp at first but in true golfing style 29 mad men embraced the situation and took the challenge for the 2012 Victorian PMA Arctic Blast John Noyes Classic Golf Day.

Registrations took place in doors at the Amstel Golf Club where we got instructions and had a sausage or two to fuel the engine room in preparation for the elements.

At 12 noon we all teed off to a Shotgun start and hacked our way around the course.

After some 4.5 - 5 hours later we rejoined back in the clubrooms for the Presentations and Dinner.

The winners were;

Winning Team                                        Karl Ludic

                                                             Brett Cook

                                                             Chris Culpepper

                                                             Mark Curuthers

NAGA Team                                          Darryn Fisk

                                                            Don Peters

                                                            Richard Robertson

Longest Drive Handicap                          Aaron Berthelot

Longest Drive Non Handicap                   Bryan Leach

Nearest the Slab                                    Richard Robertson

Nearest the Pin Handicap                       Aaron Berthelot

Nearest the Pin Non Handicap                Bryan Leach

Everybody had a wonderful Day and are looking forward to next years event.

A very big thankyou to the Amstel Golf Club and staff for their hospitality and the condition of the course in difficult weather conditions. (And very special thanks to Nicki Rogers and Jeff Crowley who organised the day)

UK National Photo Month Sucess- by Glynn Lavender

HERE'S AN IDEA...

What better way to raise awareness of our annual trade show than to have a major, national promotional push in the month leading up to it?

The UK has just run its first National Photo Month with great success with massive publicity about all things photo.

Check out Nigel McNaughts report on how they managed to make the program work and lets see if our industry leaders take on this idea as something worth working on to really push our industry.

National Photography Month (NPM) in the United Kingdom was a big success. The effort was "well supported by many in the industry and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the sponsors and organizations who arranged promotions and activities. I am pleased to enclose our report on the month.

We did not achieve all that we had hoped for in every area, but in some areas we exceeded expectations.

Such is the nature of this type of event," said Nigel McNaught, director of PMA's U.K. office, which supported the event.

"There can be little doubt that awareness of the importance of photography and photographic records has been heightened and I have received many messages of increased activity at retail level where the promotions have been very successful in promoting sales," McNaught added.

His report on the event with survey statistics and information on how the event was promoted can be found here

Luke Valentine Shares Some News and Concerns

Hi Peter and fellow PMA Members

IBM is treating me well and I am enjoying my current role a lot. I am working as a Change Management consultant on Chevron's Gorgon IT project till the end of August.

Lots of change ahead for the Valentines as Shanelle and I are expecting a little boy on 4th September.

I am still doing the advertising artwork and some IT for Mum and Dad so I am not completely sidelined from the photo industry yet.

I still keep an eye on what is happening around the place and I came across this article today and I think it will have a far greater impact than the GST on imports debate.

With the Federal Government looking into price disparity between software here and overseas it may only be a matter of time before it spreads into other product arenas.

We already see our industry stalwart programs Lightroom and Photoshop massively overpriced with comparison to overseas markets. It will be interesting to see where this inquiry leads.

Birthdays and Other Major Events!

Our old friend Tony Quigley,(ex Kodak Australia, now living in the UK)has a birthday this week. Understand Billy McCall (recently retired from Britta) will be visiting him in coming weeks.

Industry stallwart John Swainston was also another year older on Monday.

Long time PMA member Harvey Gordon celebrates another good year on Tuesday. He has some changes coming up in his business which I will check out next week.

Happy birthday from PMA to all the above gentlemen.

Jeremy Light from Yaffa Publishing celebrated winning the monthly golf medal at Royal Sydney last Saturday (with 42 points... for you golfers).Congralulations!!

Whats your local news? Drop me a line...we do not celebrate the important things enough!!

Kind regards,

Peter
