This month, the BLM team is giving you tips, techniques, and encouragement to help you in all aspects of your daily walk ... from health, to recipes, to scripture, to what you need to help get digging deeper in God's Word!

Getting HELP

to Make Life Better

Executive Director,
Kathy Weckwerth

This past month, I suffered from a terrible flu.  It was the worst! Being unable to help others was torture.

I was forced to cancel my Bible studies for 2 weeks, cancel babysitting my granddaughter, Cordelia, and cancel much of my life unable to help anyone!

Days went by as I laid in bed, and as the day for our Best Life Conference drew closer, I knew I was in trouble.  I visited the doctor but she gave me the usual "it's a virus" line and so medication didn't seem like it would help.  I couldn't understand why my prayers weren't answered, after all, didn't God know that I needed to help people!

And then a light bulb came on in my heart and mind.  It was time for me to let others help
me.  I bit my lip, held back the urge to run and scream, and posted on facebook to my friends ... I need help ... I need prayer.Within one hour of my plea, I had over 100 friends that were in prayer for me and I began to feel better immediately.  I jumped out of bed, got dressed, ate a healthy lunch and began to feel restored.

Two days later, I stood in front of a sanctuary filled with anxious women who were ready to meet God and receive some help.  The verse that God gave me was this one:  II Corinthians 12:9-11,
"But he said to me, "My grace  is sufficient for you, for my power  is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong."

Help is a two way track.  We can give and give and give ... but God will humble us so that others can give to us and help us.  We are not made to just give.  We are made to receive.  And the greatest blessing you will find comes in both the giving and receiving of help.

This month, I challenge you to keep track of the times that you help others and the times that you allow others to help you.  Keep track of the times that you ask God for help and He answers.  Make sure there is a balance because within the actions of help, comes God's greatest blessings.

Find Help in

Prayer

With Deb Treat, Assistant Prayer Support

Prayer has always been important to me, but until recently, I didn't understand the value of prayer to God.

Hebrews 7:25 tells us that Jesus is constantly interceding (praying) for us.

Can you grasp the magnitude of this?  Our Savior has spent over 2000 years petitioning God for us.  Should we see prayer any less valuable in our personal lives?

In Psalm 50:15 (ESV), God says "and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me."

God commands us to call upon him (pray) so that He can help us, and by doing so, He will receive honor.

We are strongly encouraged to "Keep on coming boldly to the throne of grace, so that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need" (Hebrews 4:16, NIV).

The Bible is full of verses persuading us to seek the Lord in prayer.

Friend, God is waiting to show His love to you by meeting your needs.  His Son is praying for you now.  Won't you pray, asking God for help?

Finding the HELP you need to study God's Word

We need to make time for studying God's Word.  Very often, our team will hear women say that they are too busy or they don't understand the Bible.

This month, here are several books that will help you dig into God's Word at a deeper level.

               Scriptures to Motivate You

  • Deuteronomy 4:29, "But if from there you seek the Lord, you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul."
  • Psalm 14:2,"The Lord looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God."

  • Psalm 63:1 "You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek You.  I thirst for You, my whole being longs for You, in a dry and parched land where there is no water."

    • Know Your Bible by Paul Kent
    • Halley's Bible Handbook by Henry H. Halley
    • Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible by James Strong

Need Help Finding a Great TV Series?

Call the Midwife

Call the Midwife is a BBC period drama series about a group of nurse midwives working in the East End of London in the 1950s and 1960s.

The narrating voice is by none other than Vanessa Redgrave, but the show stars Jessica Raine, Miranda Hart, Helen George, Bryony Hannah, and Laura Main, along with others.

The series was originally based on the memoirs of Jennifer Worth.  The first series of six episodes premiered in the UK in January 2012. The autumn 2012 PBS broadcast of the first series of Call the Midwife in the United States received widespread critical acclaim. The Wall Street Journal declared that "this immensely absorbing drama is worth any trouble it takes to catch up with its singular pleasures",while The Washington Post stated that "the cast is marvelous, the gritty, post-war set pieces are meticulously recreated"TV Guide called the series "a delight to watch."

Each episode takes you on a journey back in time to the London streets where a group of midwives, working alongside a group of nuns, help to deliver babies.  You become a part of their lives and with each episode we find ourselves feeling emotions of doubt, faith, joy, sorrow, guilt, and compassion.  There was hardly an episode where we didn't cry!

The Best Life reviewers are looking forward to the show's 2015-2016 episodes!  You can catch up with all of the series on Netflix.
