Molly McCloskey is an American writer who has lived in Ireland since 1989. Her fiction has won the RTE Francis MacManus Award and the inaugural Fish Short Story Prize. CCE fundraising ceili

The 2014 edition of MAD Week (Musical Arts & Dance) will be held in July, so we are at the half-way mark. To mark the occasion, and to raise funds to help pay travel expenses for faculty members coming from Ireland and elsewhere, CCE Potomac have organised a gala family céilí (social Irish dance) on Saturday, February 1, 2-5 pm at Cedar Lane Unitarian Church, Bethesda MD.
CCE will also hold a regular ceili on Saturday 8 February at the Frying Pan Park Visitor's Centre, Herndon VA.Dance workshop 7:00-7:30 pm, Dance 7:30-10:30 pm.

Dr Stephen Mandal, co-founder and CEO of Cultural Resource Development Services, and the Irish Archaeology Field School, will lead a discussion on The Blackfriary Project, an ongoing archaeological investigation into a 13th century Dominican friary in Trim, Co Meath, Ireland. The project is a pilot for a movement called CHAT (Cultural Heritage Amenity Towns) that aims to provide a new vehicle for an innovative and sustainable tourism and education based economy based on engagement by local communities with their heritage.
The event takes place on Tuesday February 4th at 6 pm at One Dupont Circle, NW, Suite 520, Washington, DC. Open to all but space is limited, so please register here.

If so, you may be eligible for a grant from the Irish Government under the Emigrant Support Programme. The Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade provides financial support through its Emigrant Support Programme to organisations which are engaged in the delivery of services to members of Irish communities overseas.

2014 Rose of Tralee

The Rose of Tralee International Festival is one of Ireland's largest and longest running festivals, celebrating 55 years in 2014. The heart of the festival is the selection of the Rose of Tralee which brings young women of Irish descent from around the world to County Kerry, Ireland for a global celebration of Irish culture.
Rose, Rosebud and Rose Petal applications are currently being accepted by the Washington, D.C. branch of the Rose of Tralee competition. Applications for Rose Candidates will be due on March 31st, 2014; and Applications for the Rosebuds and Rose Petals will be due on April 1st, 2014.
