The Poetry Project

 

Every week for 6 months, from January 1st 2013, The Poetry Project will be uploading a poem and accompanying video artwork, in celebration of Ireland's literary and visual creativity.

 

You'll be able to follow the work of leading, and emerging artists and writers, and discover Ireland through different eyes.

British cellist Jamie Walton is joined by Irish pianist Finghin Collins in a program at The Phillips Collection that includes Beethoven's Sonata in G minor, Op. 5, No. 2; Janáček's Pohádka; Britten's Sonata in C Major, Op. 65; and Rachmaninoff's iconic Sonata in G minor, Op. 19.

Separated by fewer than 100 miles, England and Ireland have had a closely intertwined history with profound political and cultural significance for both islands. In a new exhibition at the Folger, the deep connections between these two cultures-at times uneasy allies, at times warring antagonists-are explored through the lens of the Renaissance, a period when Irish autonomy and English supremacy rose to the forefront of Anglo-Irish relations.

Irish writer Colum McCann at HoCoPoLitSo

35th Irish Evening of Music and Poetry

HoCoPoLitSo's guest for its 35th Annual Irish Evening is the international best-selling and award-winning author Colum McCann. He will read from his work. McCann's reading will be followed by Narrowbacks Eileen Korn, Jesse Winch, Terence Winch, Linda Hickman, and Brendan Mulvihill on fiddle in a concert of traditional Irish music with stepdancers from the Culkin School.

James Galway at the Kennedy Center   

        

James Galway will perform at the Kennedy Center on St. Patrick's Day, 17th March. Further information here.

The Chieftains at the Kennedy Center        

 

The Chieftains will perform at the Kennedy Center from 14-16th March.   

 

Groups of 20 to 59 people currently receive a 10% discount on most tickets for the Thursday and Friday performances.  Groups of 60 or more people currently receive a 15% discount on most tickets for the Thursday and Friday performances.  Groups are also able to reserve tickets for a time, before payment comes due.

A Celebration of Irish Writing      


A Celebration of Irish Writing offers a week in Ireland of talk, entertainment, relaxation and learning for a small group of up to 15 participants.

 

Following an informal get-together on Saturday evening, the week starts with Bloomsday, the day when James Joyce's masterpiece Ulysses is celebrated.  For more information, please click  here.
