Assistant Principal Announcement
Dear St. John Bosco Community,

Please help me in welcoming Mrs. Anita Petitti to our St. John Bosco community. Mrs. Petitti has accepted the position of assistant principal. In addition to holding masters degrees in both Educational Leadership (NAU) and Family Studies and Human Development (ASU), Mrs. Petitti has more than 20 years of experience as a school administrator in the Diocese of Phoenix. We are blessed to have such a seasoned and well-respected educator join our administrative team. Mrs. Petitti, Mr. Watson and I will work together to facilitate a smooth transition. Stay tuned for details on a meet-and-greet gathering so that teachers, staff and parent leadership can personally give Mrs. Petitti a warm St. John Bosco welcome.

Experts Among Us!
Did you know that our very own Math Specialist, Melissa Cesarano, was a speaker at the 2015 National Catholic Educational Association Convention in Orlando, Florida? Mrs. Cesarano gave a presentation on "Strategies for a Differentiated Classroom" to convention attendees--it was a packed house! Student Representation at Intel Science Fair
Intel is sponsoring a International Science Symposium this Thursday at the Phoenix Convention Center and some of our 8th graders have been asked to present their projects! A few of our 7th graders have also been asked to attend this special day. The 8th grade presenters representing St. John Bosco are: Ethan B., Andrew C., Camden A., PJ W., Matthew A., Harris K., Izabella M., Keeley B., Kali P., and Shea S. The 7th grade attendees are David V., Noah D., Sam K., Sydney S., Jocelyn R., and Anthony R.

Student Council Officer Applications Due Tomorrow!
If you are interested in running for a Student Council Officer position for the 2015-16 school year, paperwork can now be found on the Student Council portion of the SJB website

We'd like to extend a huge thank you to Mrs. Friedl who generously donated her time to do a professional photo shoot for our school! These photos will be used in marketing materials, advertising and updates to the website, to name a few. She truly captured SJB's spirit!
Community Outreach: Internet Safety
Come join us for a presentation by the Office of the Arizona Attorney General, Mark Brnovich on Tuesday, May 19 at 6:00 pm in the St. John Bosco MPR. This is a parents-only presentation that will cover popular apps, social media websites, sexting, cyber-predation and cyber-bullying.
LEGO Camp

Vacation Bible School Registration Closes This Sunday!

At Vacation Bible School, children will Set Sail With the Holy Trinity to learn about our Catholic faith through the eyes of St. Patrick.

As we sail through the week, your children will play games, create colorful crafts and enjoy healthy snacks. Who: Incoming Kindergartners-5th graders (grade for the 2015-2016 school year)

Registration Fee: $55 for first child, $50 each additional child

Bulldog Ambassadors
Bulldog Ambassador applications for the 2015-16 school year are now available. Bulldog Ambassadors are students from grades 5 through 8 who are proud to be part of SJB and are interested in promoting the positive image of the school. 

To apply to be a 2015-16 Bulldog Ambassador, students must:
  • Fill out the Bulldog Ambassador Application and return to the Main Office by Friday, May 29 at 3 pm. All current 2014-15 Ambassadors will be required to re-apply.
  • Have your homeroom teacher fill out a Teacher Recommendation form. 
  • Be able to meet all the expectations and duties as outlined on the Application.
While students are allowed to apply for both Student Council and Bulldog Ambassadors, please note that students who are elected to Student Council forfeit their candidacy for Bulldog Ambassadors. Acceptance letters will be sent out the last week of school. After-School Sports
Congratulations to ALL of our sports teams and thank you to those who attended the After-School Sports Banquet on May 6.  We'd like to give a special shout out to Mrs. Carlos for putting together a wonderful video in recognizing all of our teams efforts. Family Promise

Family Promise will be here in June and they are asking SJB students to donate items. They are collecting: 

  • Travel-sized items: soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shaving cream
  • Baby Wipes
  • Paper Items: Paper towels, Tissues
  • Razors
  • Sunscreen
  • Deodorant
Student Council will come around and put a box in every classroom that says "Family Promise." They will come around on Fridays to pick up items. If you have questions, please contact Tracy Ryan.
Summer Virtual Math Course
Keep up your math skills during the summer and work at your own pace. 
Summer math course can be done from any location with WiFi access. Each lesson contains fact fluency, a video about a new concept, mental math practice and a spiral review to stay current with all math skills. Students work will be returned with a personalized video response. Courses range from Kinder Math to Algebra II. All classes taught by Melissa Cesarano. Follow this link for more information.
Corpus Christi VBS Registration Open

VBS at Corpus Christi is happening the week of June 8 - 12, Monday - Thursday 8:30 am - noon, and Friday until 1:00 pm. The fee is $30 per child, or families with three or more children registering is $70 total. 6th graders will do community service activities each day except on Friday. Download the registration form and turn it in to the Catholic Education Office at Corpus Christi Parish. Please contact Denise Halloran with any questions.

News from the Business Office

Catholic Education Arizona (CEA) Applications

The application deadline for the first round of disbursements may have passed, but you can still fill out an application for second round disbursements with CEA. Catholic Education Arizona uses FAIR-Financial Aid Independent Review to process its applications. Please note that there is a $24.00 application fee. The application is available online or you can also download the CEA-FAIR brochure for 2015 - 16. The CEA school code is 700 and the school password is cea700. If you fax your supporting documents to FAIR, be sure to confirm receipt with FAIR.

Great news! The rebate percentage on Subway has increased to 6%. That means you can use a credit card to purchase Subway cards. They come in $10 increments.

Saint John Paul II Catholic High School Coming to the Far West Valley

Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted is pleased to announce plans for a new Catholic high school in the far West Valley: Saint John Paul II Catholic High School. Coming in fall 2018, the new school will be named after our late Holy Father, whose leadership and call to holiness during his 27-year papacy resonates to this day.
