Re-Enrollment for the 2015-16 School Year
The re-enrollment process will open on February 17 and will be done online--all families will receive an email on February 17 to initiate this process. Look for more information coming soon!
RenWeb/FACTS Update
Did you know that Renweb and FACTS-Nelnet Business Solutions have merged! Over the next year we will see a streamlining of these two software systems that SJB uses for admissions, re-enrollment, report cards and tuition management.
The one improvement that is available at this time is single service sign-on. When you log onto RenWeb-Parents Web, go to Family Information and open the drop down menu-there you can click on Tuition Plan. The first time you initiate this link you will see: If FACTS has not opened automatically in a new browser window/tab, then click here to open FACTS. Which will take you to the FACTS sign-on page. The first time time you log into FACTS through RenWeb you will need to sign in but after that you will automatically be able to access your FACTS account without having to log into two separate systems.
This is a great improvement to both systems! We hope you are able to take advantage of this enhancement. Financial Aid As we prepare to enroll our students for the 2015 - 16 academic year, please note that the various student tuition assistance organizations (STOs) have different deadlines and procedures for their application process. For a list of organizations that have supported SJB students over the past few years, click here. Catholic Education Arizona (CEA) The application process for the 2015 - 16 school year will open on February 2. Catholic Education Arizona uses FAIR-Financial Aid Independent Review to process its applications. Please note that there is a $24.00 application fee. The application is available online or you can also download the CEA-FAIR brochure for 2015-16. The CEA school code is 700 and the school password is cea700. If you fax your supporting documents to FAIR, be sure to confirm receipt with FAIR. CEA application deadline for round one awards is April 15. Parents will be notified of the disposition of your submitted application by CEA by June 30, 2015. Brophy Community Foundation The Brophy Community Foundation applications for financial aid for the 2015 - 16 school year are available starting February 1, 2015 at this link. The Foundation's application deadline is April 15--there is no charge for applications submitted on or before April 15. All families who have received an award previously must re-apply every year. Please note that the Foundation uses FACTS to process their applications. This FACTS grant and financial aid system is different from the tool that SJB uses for our FACTS tuition management. If your family applies for CEA scholarship funds, you are encouraged to consider submitting an online application to the Brophy Community Foundation. If you have any questions regarding financial aid resources, please feel free to email Caroline Panzarella, SJB Operations Manager at 480.219.4845. |

Flu Season
Flu season is upon us. We already have confirmed cases of flu on campus. Influenza (the flu) is an infection of the nose, throat, and lungs caused by influenza viruses. There are many different influenza viruses that are constantly changing.
Symptoms of flu include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills, fatigue and sometimes vomiting and diarrhea.
If you or your child exhibits these symptoms, please contact your health care provider.
Also, please encourage your children to do the following to try to prevent the spread of germs:
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue away after use and wash your hands. If a tissue is not available, cover your mouth and nose with your sleeve, not your hand.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. If soap and water are not available, use hand sanitizer.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth. Germs spread this way.
We have a school policy to be fever-free for 24-hours without medication before returning to school. If your student still has the other symptoms, please keep them home--they are still contagious. It is not unusual to feel sick for 7 to 10 days when you have the flu. Also, there is more than one strain of the flu. You are highly unlikely to get the same flu strain again, but when your immune system is compromised, you are more likely to get another strain that is going around.
Volunteer Opportunity The nurses' office is in need of ice packs. This is a great opportunity for junior high students in need of in-school service hours or for parents looking to fulfill their service hours at home. Simply fold a paper towel and place it into a plastic sandwich sized zipper bag. No need to add water or seal the bags. We will add the water and freeze them as we need them. If you have any questions, feel free to stop in at the office. This is an ongoing opportunity as we generally use at least 50-100 ice packs per week. Thanks in advance!
School Lunches Eating healthy plays a large part in staying healthy. Please have your children eat a good breakfast before school and bring a healthy lunch. If your child normally orders "hot lunch," remember that lunch orders need to be placed with A+ Catering before 9:00 pm the night before for your child to receive lunch the following day. Our lunch provider does not send extra lunches to give to children who have not pre-ordered. There is a quick link to their site on the SJB homepage and you can also access their site here. In addition, please be aware of the Diocesan wellness policy regarding on-campus food and lunches. If you deliver lunch to your child, it cannot be "fast food." Some nearby recommendations would be Subway, Paradise Bakery, Jason's Deli, or Pita Jungle. Sprouts and AJ's also have a service deli for salads and custom sandwiches. |
The gift cards we sell in the Scrip office return varying percentages to you; anywhere from 1.5% of their dollar value all the way up to 40%. The higher the percentage, the more money you get back!
Ultra-tainment checks are one of our products with a very high return with 30%! That means for every $100 you use, $15 of that comes back to our school to help keep tuition affordable. You will end up receiving the other $15 credit toward tuition, registration fees, etc.Another great thing about Ultra-tainment is that it can be used at multiple places! Here are some examples of the vendors: Charleston's Spinato's Grimaldi's Taco Bell Red Robin Chompie's Fatburger Garcia's Mexican Restaurant Chino Bandido |

PTO Volunteer of the Month
Congratulations, Clare Miller! Clare Miller was nominated by Mrs. Ahearne for the January Volunteer of the Month. Mrs. Miller volunteers in the library, she works at the gate and she's been a great CAP volunteer. Mrs. Miller does all of this with enthusiasm and a smile! Thank you, Mrs. Miller for being such a wonderful example of an SJB community builder.
If you want to nominate a Volunteer of the Month there are forms in the PTO folder in the front office file cabinet. The volunteer of the month gets a shout out in The Bite and the rockstar parking spot at the front of the school. PTO loves to recognize the folks that make St. John Bosco a special place, so please nominate! |

Calling All Scouts! Please plan to attend Scout Sunday Mass at 9:00 am on Sunday, February 1. Fr. Bob has requested that Scouts and Scout leaders attend in Class A uniforms. We will have a Flag procession for the opening of Mass. All units can bring their flag (and bring the base by 8:30 am) and participate. Other roles include lectors, EME's, altar servers, hospitality, musicians and more. You will be able to volunteer for EME's if you are trained in any parish. The goal is that all the roles are filled by uniformed adults and youth.
Fr. Bob will award religious emblems as provided by scout units. In addition, he will ask scouts to stand if they have previously received a religious emblem or are working on one.
Scouts and their families will have reserved seating in the front. Again, please plan to arrive a little early. For more information, please email Kim Dorney.
