Flu Season
Flu season is upon us. We already have confirmed cases of flu on campus. Influenza (the flu) is an infection of the nose, throat, and lungs caused by influenza viruses. There are many different influenza viruses that are constantly changing.
Symptoms of flu include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills, fatigue and sometimes vomiting and diarrhea.
If you or your child exhibits these symptoms, please contact your health care provider.
Also, please encourage your children to do the following to try to prevent the spread of germs:
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue away after use and wash your hands. If a tissue is not available, cover your mouth and nose with your sleeve, not your hand.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. If soap and water are not available, use hand sanitizer.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth. Germs spread this way.
We have a school policy to be fever-free for 24-hours without medication before returning to school. If your student still has the other symptoms, please keep them home--they are still contagious. It is not unusual to feel sick for 7 to 10 days when you have the flu. Also, there is more than one strain of the flu. You are highly unlikely to get the same flu strain again, but when your immune system is compromised, you are more likely to get another strain that is going around.
Volunteer Opportunity The nurses' office is in need of ice packs. This is a great opportunity for junior high students in need of in-school service hours or for parents looking to fulfill their service hours at home. Simply fold a paper towel and place it into a plastic sandwich sized zipper bag. No need to add water or seal the bags. We will add the water and freeze them as we need them. If you have any questions, feel free to stop in at the office. This is an ongoing opportunity as we generally use at least 50-100 ice packs per week. Thanks in advance!
School Lunches Eating healthy plays a large part in staying healthy. Please have your children eat a good breakfast before school and bring a healthy lunch. If your child normally orders "hot lunch," remember that lunch orders need to be placed with A+ Catering before 9:00 pm the night before for your child to receive lunch the following day. Our lunch provider does not send extra lunches to give to children who have not pre-ordered. There is a quick link to their site on the SJB homepage and you can also access their site here. In addition, please be aware of the Diocesan wellness policy regarding on-campus food and lunches. If you deliver lunch to your child, it cannot be "fast food." Some nearby recommendations would be Subway, Paradise Bakery, Jason's Deli, or Pita Jungle. Sprouts and AJ's also have a service deli for salads and custom sandwiches. |
|
We have a new vendor--Panda Express! It comes in $25 increments and pays back 8%!
Reports came home Friday or are coming home this week. Please look yours over and return it if you have a balance to apply. Questions? Stop by or email us. |

Calling All Scouts! Please plan to attend Scout Sunday Mass at 9:00 am on Sunday, February 1. Fr. Bob has requested that Scouts and Scout leaders attend in Class A uniforms. We will have a Flag procession for the opening of Mass. All units can bring their flag (and bring the base by 8:30 am) and participate. Other roles include lectors, EU ministers, altar servers, hospitality, musicians and more. You will be able to volunteer for EU minister if you are trained in any parish. The goal is that all the roles are filled by uniformed adults and youth.
Fr. Bob will award religious emblems as provided by scout units. In addition, he will ask scouts to stand if they have previously received an religious emblem or are working on one.
Scouts and their families will have reserved seating in the front. Again, please plan to arrive a little early. For more information, please email Kim Dorney.
