Spelling Bee Highlights
Wow! What an exciting Spelling Bee we had last week. Audrey Wood, our returning champ, will represent St. John Bosco at the Diocesan Spelling Bee. The win didn't come easily. She had to go 23 rounds with fourth grader Andrew Martinez. That was the greatest number of rounds in SJB Spelling Bee history! Andrew is the second place winner and will be SJB's alternate. Congratulations to Audrey Wood! Thank you to all the volunteers who helped to prepare for the bee. News from the Nurses' Office
Unfortunately, cold and flu season is upon us. Please remind students to:
  • Wash hands thoroughly and often! Remember, something you touch has probably been touched by someone before you.
  • Avoid sharing drinks and eating utensils
  • Drink lots of water
  • Cough or sneeze into the arm
  • Get a good night's rest
  • Eat a healthy diet to keep your immune system strong
Signs of the flu: high fever, chills, dry cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, and decreased appetite. The flu usually lasts 5 to 10 days and students are contagious during the entire time. There are medications that help reduce the duration and severity of the flu--please check with your health care provider for more information.

Students cannot return to class until they are fever-free and symptom-free without medication for 24 hours. It is not too late to get the flu vaccine--it covers four different strains of the flu this year.

Calling All Scouts!
Please plan to attend Scout Sunday Mass at 9:00 am on Sunday, February 1Fr. Bob has requested that Scouts and Scout leaders attend in Class A uniforms.  We will have a Flag procession for the opening of Mass. All units can bring their flag (and bring the base by 8:30 am) and participate. Other roles include lectors, EU ministers, altar servers, hospitality, musicians and more. You will be able to volunteer for EU minister if you are trained in any parish. The goal is that all the roles are filled by uniformed adults and youth.

Fr. Bob will award religious emblems as provided by scout units.  In addition, he will ask scouts to stand if they have previously received an religious emblem or are working on one.

Scouts and their families will have reserved seating in the front. Again, please plan to arrive a little early. For more information, please email Kim Dorney.
