School News 
Cold Weather Uniform Update/Reminders
As the winter chill becomes more prevalent, we want to update and remind you of our St. John Bosco Uniform Policy.

UPDATE:
Sweatpants: Boys' and girls' PE sweat pant bottoms MAY have elastic at the ankle.

REMINDERS:
Sweatshirts: Navy or white sweatshirt with St. John Bosco logo (Includes St. John Bosco hooded sweatshirt). Please remember that if your student wears a non-SJB sweatshirt, they must take it off whenever inside the classroom.

Sweatpants:  In cold weather, navy athletic pants (elastic ankle acceptable) with no logo are acceptable for PE days; dress twill long pants are to be worn other days. Leggings are NOT acceptable.
St. John Bosco Preview Days
Know of anyone who is looking for the next steps in their child's education? Invite them to SJB's Preview Days! During Preview Days, potential new families can:
  • Meet our administrators over coffee and donuts.
  • Find out about tuition assistance opportunities.
  • Observe classes and enrichment programs while in session.
  • Tour the campus with our student ambassadors!
The next Preview Day will be Tuesday, December 2 from 8:00 - 10:30 am. No RSVP is required and potential students are encouraged to attend. For more information, follow this link or download the flyer!
Christmas Program
We're happy to announce the date of the 14th Annual St. John Bosco Christmas Program! Please join us for a night of celebrating the magical (and musical) holiday season on Thursday, December 18 at 6:00 pm. Click here to download the flyer for more information. We hope to see you there!
Junior High Winter Showcase
On Thursday, December 11, join Dance, Drama, Percussion and Yearbook for our Performing Arts Winter Showcase! There will be an afternoon performance at 1:30 pm and an evening performance at 6:30 pm in the MPR. The St. John Bosco community, family and friends are invited to come to the showcase. Turkey Trot
The 2nd Annual Turkey Trot was a huge success! Mr. Buchanan and Mrs. Jimenez have so many people to thank, we appreciate all your time and efforts to make this event active and fun for our students.  First,  thank you so much to Scott Keppel and STS for bringing his equipment from his gym, setting up and running stations for the students. Thank you to all of the people who helped: Melissa Keppel, Chris Tiedemann, Jeanne Thiele, Dan and Monica Spitza, Rosemarie Zimbelman and Donald, a trainer from STS.  Thank you to our Alumni for helping with the stations: Tanner Mendenhall, Jack Spitza, and Tim LaFave.  Thank you to the Cross Country Team and the volunteers we failed to mention!
Snack Shack
Girl Scout Troop 1878 will be running the Snack Shack after school for two weeks starting on Monday, December 1. Please support our Troop by buying something yummy after school!

Join Girls on the Run - REGISTER NOW!

Girls on the Run is a non-profit prevention program that encourages preteen girls to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through running. This is a program for EVERY girl! Girls of all fitness levels will feel encouraged & challenged. Our team will have between 6 -15 girls and Cheryl Spindler, Jeaneen Thiele, and Jennie O'Hea will be our coaches. Online registration begins THIS WEEK online and is offered to girls in 3rd - 5th grades. Spelling Bee
St. John Bosco School conducts a school spelling bee in January. Two top spellers from the fourth through eighth grade classroom bees will represent their class at the St. John Bosco School Spelling Bee. The champion of the St. John Bosco School Spelling Bee will qualify for the Diocese of Phoenix Spelling Bee held during Catholic Schools Week. The Diocese of Phoenix Spelling Bee champion moves to the regional bee. The regional bee's top two spellers qualify for the Arizona State Bee. The Arizona State Bee champion will go to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. The classroom bees will take place in the first week of December.

Jamma Jingles
The Moms' Club is collecting new pajamas for "Jamma Jingles". You can drop off your pajamas in the Candy Cane striped boxes on the SJB Courtyard. Please label your pajamas with child's grade so their class can receive credit; the class with the most pajamas donated will receive a snack day with Father Bob!

Winter Wonderland Volunteering

The 9th Annual SJB Dads' Club Trivia Night is coming up - Saturday January 24, 2015 at 6 pm. Start gathering a team of eight of your wisest friends and family... then get ready to rumble!  Who will have Trivia bragging rights in 2015?

Scrip Tips!
Would you like to contribute to the raffle baskets at Winter Wonderland?  The Scrip Office will be accepting any cards you would like to add, in any denomination!

Speaking of Winter Wonderland... the Scrip Office will be selling Scrip at Winter Wonderland from 9 - 10:30 am.  Come buy your cards for the holidays!

Children's Christmas Choir

This year, the Music Ministry department is thrilled to announce a Children's Christmas Choir. Under the direction of Debbie Brines, Parish Director of Liturgy, the soon-to-be formed group will meet to rehearse during the month of December and join the chorus to sing at the 4 pm mass on Christmas Eve (12/24). Students from grades 1st - 8th are invited to participate in this joyful form of praise.  More information and sign up is available here

Leaders of Tomorrow Art and Poetry Contest

Seton Catholic Prep is accepting entries for the Leaders of Tomorrow Art and Poetry Contest, which celebrates Seton's 60th anniversary and honors the special gifts in all children set forth by St. Elizabeth Ann Seton: Courage, Determination, Faith and Love. Open to all 6th - 8th graders, students can earn recognition for themselves and their school, and WIN cash and other prizes. Email information you would like published in the BITE to bulldogbite@sjbosco.org. Include the Monday date(s) you would like the information to run.  Photos and pdf documents may be included in your email.  
Early submission is encouraged.  
Information received after 3 pm on the Wednesday before the Monday publication will run the following week.
