ITBS are in and will be presented at your child's conference this week. Not surprisingly, our students and teachers did an amazing job in moving our test scores up from year to year! Below is a quick overview of the growth from 2013 to 2014 for specific grades looking at Grade Equivalents. As we reflect on our school's overall achievement, let us remember to celebrate each child and their specific growth that is relevant to their academic path. We are proud of all our students and teachers and their accomplishments!
The following scores look at grade equivalents (GE) for each grade level moving from 2013 to 2014. An example of a GE: 2.4 would read as a second grader in their fourth month.

ELA Grade Equivalent 2.6 to 4.2
Math Grade Equivalent 2.3 to 4.0
3rd grade 2013 to 4th grade 2014:

Math Grade Equivalent 3.3 to 4.6
4th grade 2013 to 5th grade 2014:
ELA Grade Equivalent 5.3 to 6.6
Math Grade Equivalent 4.5 to 5.9
5th grade 2013 to 6th grade 2014:
ELA Grade Equivalent 6.6 to 7.7

From the Nurses' Office
- All students should be symptom-free and fever-free (less than 100 degrees Fahrenheit for 24 hours without taking fever-reducing medication). This also includes excessive coughing, a rash, vomiting and diarrhea, with or without fever.
- Make sure they have a water bottle each day and apply sun screen, even as the temperatures cool down.
- Remind students not to share combs, brushes, or hats. Please continue to periodically check your student's head for lice.
- Reinforce good hand washing, as well as keeping hands away from mouth, nose, and eyes. Also instruct students to cough or sneeze into their arm.
- Please remember to call or e-mail the absence line to report your student absent or tardy.
- We are low on uniform supplies that we have loaned out from the Health Office. If your student has borrowed any items from the office, especially PE shorts and belts, please return them to the office.
- Flu shot and mist are available now. This is one of the best ways to keep your home and our campus healthy.

Update to Parent Emergency Alert System
We've recently updated our emergency notification system to Parent Alert from RenWeb. This system allows us the opportunity to make sure that every family registered in RenWeb will receive updates via text, email or voice message. Here are a couple commonly asked questions about Parent Alert:
- What is Parent Alert?
- Parent Alert is a mass notification system comprised of SMS text messaging to cell phones and PDAs, voice calls to any phone and email. Especially in cases of emergencies, Parent Alert provides instantaneous communication to the school community. Parent Alert augment's RenWeb's current capability for mass email distribution enabling school officials, faculty or staff members to reliably distribute instantaneous alerts, via a variety of popular devices and media, to notify parents of incidents ranging from in-school emergencies to school closings. The system can also be used to send reminders for events such as early release days, field trips, fundraising events, etc.
- What does every family need to do to make sure they receive the alerts?
- Every family is already signed up for Parent Alert just by being registered through RenWeb! All you need to do is log onto your RenWeb account and update all of your email, telephone and cell phone contacts. Parent Alert uses the contact information on file in RenWeb. The texts or emails will be sent to the contact numbers and addresses listed in your account.

Boy Scout SJB Troop 77 We're looking for a "few good boys" to join our Troop! If your son is 12 years old, or has earned his Arrow of Light and is in the fifth grade, he can join us. No experiences is necessary! Your son does not have to have been a Cub Scout to be a Boy Scout. If there's one thing Scouts know, it's that the best part of earning a badge is the experience. And with badges ranging from backpacking to robotics, there are tons of cool experiences to be had. So if your son is looking for real adventure, get him involved with Boy Scouts of America. You'll see firsthand how once-in-a-lifetime opportunities can lead to a lifetime of success. Come check us out! Troop 77 meets Monday nights at 7 PM in Mrs. Hernandez's 6th grade classroom. For more information, contact our Troop Committee Chair, Kim Dorney or our Scoutmaster, Michael Nickelsburg. |
