Below is some helpful information for making the most of SCRIP, St. John Bosco's fundraising program. Not only does it help offset costs at the school, but it can also help lower your child's tuition for the year!
 
SCRIP works for three reasons:
  1. The participating retailers are stores where you already shop all the time.
  2. SJB parents can help without spending an extra dime.
  3. Many parents are looking for a new way to contribute - they're tired of buying unwanted or unnecessary items like cookies, candy, gift-wrap and magazines.

As a reminder,  school office hours for July are by appointment only. Administration and office staff are working throughout the summer and can be reached by phone or email.

What is SCRIP?

 

SCRIP is the easiest, best way for St. John Bosco to raise money on a consistent basis. It's simple. Like a gift certificate, SCRIP is used by SJB parents to purchase goods and services at hundreds of national and local establishments, including leading retail stores, travel services, grocery stores and restaurants. SJB receives a percentage of sales. 

 

Families have the possibility of earning partial or several months of tuition credit through active SCRIP participation, in addition to offsetting on-going costs at SJB. 

 

Best of all, participation is really easy: we are only asking you to buy gift cards to places where you would spend money anyway!

 

How SCRIP Works

 

A real-life example: This weekend I will be taking my kids to the movies. I will stop by the SCRIP office and purchase $50 in gift cards for Harkins Theaters. When I go to the movies, I will use the gift cards to pay for admission and snacks. 

Here's what happened behind the scenes: The SCRIP order form says Harkins pays 8%. This means that when I purchased the cards, 8% of $50.00 (or $4.00) went towards my SCRIP profit. Once I reach $100 in SCRIP profit, I will split it 50/50 with the school. For example if my profit is $600, the school retains the first $100 plus 50% of what I earn after that which, in this example would be $250. This leaves me a balance of $250 to be put towards my tuition.  

 

Helpful Tips

 

Each family is asked to earn $100 in SCRIP profit during the SCRIP year (March 16, 2014 to March 15, 2015).

 

Grocery gift cards are the fastest way to earn your SCRIP dollars. Everyone buys groceries, right? We sell gift cards for Basha's, Safeway, Whole Foods, Sprouts, and Albertsons. You can earn anywhere from 4-6% just buying groceries. 

 

You can also purchase gift cards from vendors that are not shown on our regular order form. By using the special order form, you can purchase SCRIP for Disney (as in DisneyLand, DisneyWorld, Disney Cruises and the store), all Marriott properties, and many other vacation destinations. Plan ahead, though--special orders sometimes take a few days, to a week to get in.

 

Check out Madison Avenue, SportClips, and Someburros. These local companies are owned by St. John Bosco families and give a high percentage back to you and to the school.  Other vendors, such as Abuelos, also have a high percentage return.

 

Take advantage of the SCRIP promotions! These take place a few times during the year. You will receive emails and fliers about upcoming events.


Take time to read "SCRIP News" in the Bosco BITE and online. This is where you will learn about any specials going on such as "limited time only" gift cards, an increase or decrease in percentages of particular gift card, and other vendor promotions. 

 

Where You Can Get SCRIP

 

During July, the SCRIP office is closed; however, uniform SCRIP orders will be available in July by sending your order to Dorothy Abril at dabril@sjbosco.org, she will email you within 48 hours to let you know when your SCRIP is ready.
