We Won!
St. John Bosco placed in the top 5 schools in Arizona for the RECYCLE BOWL contest we entered in the fall. Frankie G. and Ellie C. represented CAP at the awards banquet last Friday, January 24, at Metro Tech. All of the Coalition of Recycling Members were impressed with our second appearance in the winners circle! Congratulations and Thanks to all the CAP members for teaching the rest of the school to recycle.
St. Simon and Jude and Bourgade Catholic were also in the top 5. Way to protect the earth Catholic Schools!

 Diocesan Spelling Bee
4th grader Audrey W. represented St. John Bosco School at the annual Diocesan Spelling Bee on Tuesday, January 28. She represented SJB extremely well. She impressed the audience with her precise diction. Her enunciation was so clear and crisp, we hardly noticed when she misspelled the word "oppression." Those double consonants are troublesome for all of us. Audrey met new friends and seemed to enjoy the experience. Let's give Audrey two bulldog barks for her hard work in preparing for the bee.

Thank you to the many SJB families who donate to scrip through their businesses. The Lykins team (real estate) will contribute $500 to your scrip account when you buy or sell a house with their help. The Grossgold family (Gold Crown Promotions) gives a percentage back to your account when you place an order with them, and the MacKenzies (Foothills Animal Hospital) do as well. Thank you also to the Larusso family (Madison Avenue Salon and Day Spa) and the Basha family (Bashas', AJ's, and Food City) for their long standing support of SJB and the scrip program. Please give these local businesses your patronage as a way of showing your appreciation.
We still have a few Harkins Cups available. They are good for refills at the movies for the whole year!

Attention Bulldog Baseball Players
Baseball season is right around the corner. Bosco ball players have the exciting opportunity to purchase custom wood bats from two different vendors. Wood bats are excellent training tools for practice, teaching better swing mechanics and where on the bat to make contact. Additionally, they can save some wear and tear on regular metal/composite bats, especially during tee work. 7th grade players especially should consider a wood bat for the upcoming Bosco baseball season. In the public middle schools, this is a "transitional" time. Players use bats with weights that are heavier than Little League bats, but lighter than full-sized adult bats. Unfortunately, the CYAA organization requires 7th and 8th grade ball players to jump from Little League bats directly to full-sized adult bat weights.
Wood bats are a way for players to still use "transitional" bats, as wood bats are allowed to be lighter weight than metal bats in CYAA.
Coaches Kominski, Rubio and myself have purchased bats for our sons and would be happy to let you take a look before you decide to buy or not.
Zinger Bat Company is a local bat manufacturer which has a design that includes the Bosco "SJB" logo on ash bats, a full paint job with a sky/royal blue and the engraving is the Bosco gold/yellow. Dove Tail Bat Company is out of Maine, but were sponsors of this past weekend's Desert Vista Baseball fundraiser. Their bats are offered in ash, birch and maple with a traditional "pro" design, and they stain their bats. They have worked with us to design a Bosco only bat design which incorporates "Pro" bat design and materials, but a shorter design in a transitional weight.
For more information or order forms, please email me: erikwbrown@me.com
In order to save time and money, all orders will be collected and submitted together. All orders with payment are due to Erik Brown by February 7, 2014.
