Fun for everyone!  Activities and games for kids, a ton of information for parents
Our Open House is designed for existing families and prospective new families.  Current SJB families are encouraged to come and explore what lies ahead for their children next year with a new teacher and grade.  This is a great time to ask questions, look at books and explore curriculum.

$500 Tuition Raffle - For all those enrolling additional children for next school year, not currently an SJB student, come to the Open House and be entered into a raffle to win $500 off of tuition.

Help us spread the word! Bring a friend to the Open House!  For each child you refer that registers for the 2014-2015, you will receive a $300 tuition credit.
Special Persons' Day - Friday, January 31

An annual tradition at St. John Bosco, Special Persons' Day is a day set-aside during Catholic Schools Week where we open up our campus to special people in your student's life.  It is designed for the special people in your child's life that wouldn't normally have an opportunity to be on campus - grandparents, godparents, a special aunt or uncle, close family friend, etc.  During their time here on campus they will get a bird's eye view of what our students are learning and doing on a daily basis and what makes St. John Bosco and Catholic education so special.

Teachers are very sensitive to students who may not have someone to visit and make sure those students are included in a very real way.

Please follow this link to provide contact information for your student's special person. They will be sent an invitation via email with all of the details of the event.

New Tool Cabinet - Thank You Facilities Committee!
SJB received a new tool cabinet to better organize our tools and take care of our beautiful campus.  The tool cabinet has been described by one as the Brad Pitt of tool cabinets - and it is indeed a beauty!  Thank you to the Facilities Committee for their generosity and collective donation!

Congratulations to our Spelling Bee contestants and winners

Audrey W. from Mrs. Reichardt's fourth grade class was the overall winner of the St. John Bosco Spelling Bee on Wednesday, January 8.  Audrey will be representing St. John Bosco at the Diocesan Bee during Catholic Schools Week. It was a nail biting race for second place between four time classroom winner, Madison P. and newcomer, Anthony D. Madison ended it in the 15th round by spelling "pandering". Madison is our second place winner and will be the alternate for the Diocesan Bee. A big thank you to the parents and staff who helped with the preparation of the Bee. Mrs. Avila did a wonderful job as the pronouncer and Ms. Sullivan and Mrs. Guthrie were great at handling the microphones. Mrs. Jacobs, Mrs. Galvan, and Mrs. Jehle did a fine job judging the Bee. Special thanks go to Mrs. Quintana and Mrs. Haik for putting in overtime for helping with programs, certificates, and contestant tags. Let's hear two Bulldog barks for the contestants. Their preparation made this year's Bee an exciting one.

Athletic News
Attention Bulldog Baseball Players

Baseball season is right around the corner.  Bosco ball players have the exciting opportunity to purchase custom wood bats from two different vendors.  Wood bats are excellent training tools for practice, teaching better swing mechanics and where on the bat to make contact. Additionally, they can save some wear and tear on regular metal/composite bats, especially during tee work. 7th grade players especially should consider a wood bat for the upcoming Bosco baseball season. In the public middle schools, this is a "transitional" time. Players use bats with weights that are heavier than Little League bats, but lighter than full-sized adult bats. Unfortunately, the CYAA organization requires 7th and 8th grade ball players to jump from Little League bats directly to full-sized adult bat weights.

Wood bats are a way for players to still use "transitional" bats, as wood bats are allowed to be lighter weight than metal bats in CYAA.

Coaches Kominski, Rubio and myself have purchased bats for our sons and would be happy to let you take a look before you decide to buy or not.

Zinger Bat Company is a local bat manufacturer which has a design that includes the Bosco "SJB" logo on ash bats, a full paint job with a sky/royal blue and the engraving is the Bosco gold/yellow. Dove Tail Bat Company is out of Maine, but were sponsors of this past weekend's Desert Vista Baseball fundraiser. Their bats are offered in ash, birch and maple with a traditional "pro" design, and they stain their bats. They have worked with us to design a Bosco only bat design which incorporates "Pro" bat design and materials, but a shorter design in a transitional weight.
