Principal's Note
Dear St. John Bosco Families,

I often see the quote, "Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery but today is special because it is the present." For me, the last week of school before break was a daily "present" because the joyful celebration of Jesus' birthday took so many forms. We had art work, all school Advent prayer services, grade level plays and many living Nativities complete with blue clad Mary's who sweetly held their "baby" Jesus in their arms.

The all-school mass gave us a prayerful opportunity to close out the year. Before the closing, we honored Mary Long and Stephen Buckle for receiving the Christian Service Award. We also collectively thanked the SJB community for generously providing over a thousand dollars for St. Peter's Mission School and for providing the children at the mission with numerous pairs of new shoes. Fr. Bob blessed us and wished everyone a Merry Christmas.

Our noon dismissal was a crush of Merry Christmas greetings and quick Christmas gift exchanges. The atmosphere of joy and celebration was so exhilarating. As I left for the day, my shopping bag of gifts managed to break and I lost many of the gift tags. So, I will collectively thank you for the candy and cookies and candles and other goodies. My husband and I really appreciate your thoughtfulness. Also, thank you to all those who contributed to the gift fund which was a lovely surprise!

I sincerely hope you have had a joyful Christmas break filled with happy and memorable moments. May the loving spirit of Christmas be with you now and throughout the coming year. I look forward to next week when our campus will once again be filled with the smiling faces of students.

Blessings,

Dr. Marie Axman

School News
Wish You Could Do More or Wish We Would Just Stop Asking You to Do More?

The past few weeks of school were filled with many opportunities for us to give. We were asked to give shoes, pajamas, contributions to teachers gifts, staff gifts, adopt-a-family gifts, there were gifts to buy for family and friends, food to buy and prepare for our own families and for those who may not have had a Christmas dinner if not for the generosity of our community. Not to mention those causes and charities near and dear to our own individual hearts. The list is seemingly endless.

So why, two days before the new year, are we asking you to give more?

It is simple ... this gift takes little effort and costs you nothing. However, for those who receive your gift, it is more than priceless. It is a sigh of relief. It is a "Yes, with this help, we can do this." It is a smile. It is a blessing. If you could give this gift to another, without it costing you anything but a few minutes of your time, why wouldn't you?

If you have a tax liability to the state of Arizona, this is a gift you can give, a gift of a Catholic education. By making a contribution to Catholic Education Arizona, you will receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit. This means that the state of Arizona will give you the exact amount of your contribution back to you when you file your taxes. If you make this contribution by December 31, you may also qualify for a federal deduction. It is a win-win. You help students attend St. John Bosco who may not otherwise be able to without financial assistance and there is no cost to you.

Please consider a gift today.  www.catholiceducationarizona.org.
