Dear St. John Bosco Families,
This is the big week of the Annual Christmas performance, many class parties and other celebrations. Our week will culminate with Mass on Friday and noon dismissal. School will be closed for a full two weeks. We will reconvene classes on Monday, January 6th. If you are planning on buying new uniform shoes for your student over the break, please know that we would like to see all white shoes or all black shoes. Also, the SJB zip front sweatshirt is now available for order. I want to thank you for all of your generosity with our fundraisers for the poor and needy. We received over 400 pajama sets and numerous shoes to help needy children. In addition, our Adopt-a-family gifts are still coming in. All of these outreach programs are an important part of what we teach our students about sharing their gifts with others.
A big thank you to all of the many parents who took part in our survey. We received over 250 responses which is about 70% of our SJB community. The full survey results will soon be available on the website. However, here is a brief summary of some important findings:
-
Parents responded as being strongly satisfied with the Catholic religious aspects of our School
-
Parents are very satisfied with our Language Arts Programs as well as our Library program and Accelerated Reader program.
-
Our Math Coach and Literacy Coach are highly valued as indicated by predominantly Very Satisfied Ratings.
-
The principal and assistant principal also received predominantly very satisfied ratings.
-
Parents are also extremely pleased with the safety of the campus as well as the physical condition of the campus.
-
One area that received lower ratings was the cost of tuition.
The Advisory Board will be looking at the results of this survey at their meeting on Monday evening. The full battery of charts and survey information will be available on the website soon.
Blessings,
Marie Axman Ed.D.
Principal, St. John Bosco Catholic School

Reminder about Christmas Program
Our Annual Christmas program involving all students in PreK-6th grade will take place on Wednesday, December 18, at St. Benedict's. The matinee performance is at 1:15 and the evening show is at 6:30. Please join us as our students help spread the joy and spirit of Christmas. Students should dress in "Sunday-best" attire. In addition, PreK students should wear a santa hat. For the evening performance, students should go to their classrooms at 6:00 pm. After they perform, they will go back to the classroom with their teacher and wait for parents to pick them up at the end of the show.
Christmas Program Reception Immediately following the evening performance there will be a dessert reception in the MPR. We are in need of dessert donations! Small pre-cut bite size desserts like cookies, donut holes, brownie bites, mini cupcakes, etc. are perfect. Remember, NO Nuts. Please drop off desserts that day between 3-6 pm in the MPR before the Christmas Program. No cakes or pies or anything that needs to be cut/served can be accepted. We appreciate your help and look forward to seeing you there. If you have any questions about the reception, please contact the Moms' Club at sjbmomsclub@gmail.com.

More Teacher Awards
One of our wonderful Kindergarten teachers, Mrs. McCormick, was surprised on December 10th by the Blacker Orthodontic Team as the quarterly winner of their My Teacher Rocks Award. She was nominated by Aidan W., now in the 5th grade, and she has had a lasting impression on his life. "She was my kindergarten teacher and she is the best! She speaks Spanish, she sings a lot, she has funny songs about colors and she made me happy to be there!" She won several gift cards and donuts for the class. Congratulations, Mrs. McCormick and thank you, Aidan!
Congratulations also to Mr. Byrnes, Ms. Whalen, Mrs. Avila, and Ms. Waldmann for receiving the Xavier Golden Gator Award for Excellence in Teaching. From Xavier College Preparatory, " The Golden Gator Award, which was inaugurated in 1993 during our Golden 50th anniversary, allows us to recognize and acknowledge the often overlooked contributions of middle school teachers who have supported and guided our new Xavier freshwomen on their path to success. We are grateful to you for the confident, dedicated, enthusiastic and well-prepared young woman who arrived in August." These four teachers were nominated by the students at Xavier as teachers who inspired and encouraged them. Congratulations to these four awesome teachers!

This Advent, we invite the moms in our community to join together for Coffee and Conversation. Come take time to be with one another and with Jesus as we reflect on our faith over a cup of coffee. Join us for our last meeting on Thursday, December 19 from 8-9:15 am in Room 2. Children are welcome!
